Galavant is leaving Netflix on the seventh, so I gave it a rewatch. Yup, its still a lot of fun. Honestly, it is just a delight. I hope it is just leaving Netflix to go to another streaming service and not to disappear into the ether.

Midway through the second season, and for one thing, Richard is WAY more likeable.

Also, the show feels a lot like Disenchanted, which is unavoidable, as it’s a whimsical fantasy-comedy with great production values, I don’t think it’s anything but a coincidence, but both shows his the same Mental Fun Zone for me.

Cobra Kai is fantastic. It's set in the Karate Kid cinematic universe, 35 years later: Johnny Lawrence and Danny LaRusso's psyches are scarred from the emotional power of their childhood tournament fight, and fate draws them together in a parallel universe where 80% of all teens in LA know, love, and practice karate on a regular basis.

I don't know if I need to start a thread for The Boys, but the first few episodes of Season 2 are up. The show is very good and maybe not at all what I want to be watching right not.

Finally finished the final season of the Good Place. Shit, this is a good show. In the last half, I was like "what's left to rap up?", thinking that it was strange for there to be so much resolved for there to be more series. But every time, it was a perfect continuation. And the last episode made me cry, like, five times. But also, it had the perfect joke/pay-off when it turned out Jason had literally just been "hanging out" for countless aeons. The Good Place definitely earned its reputation of one of the all time best TV shows but is also one that really works hard to examine what it means to be a good person while still being hilarious.

Finally wrapped The Midnight Gospel, where Pendleton Ward animates a podcast as if it were going on mid-2000s era Adult Swim. No, stop, wait, it's good. I'm not afraid to acknowledge the last episode made me feel some very specific sad things.

PRIMAL is back, and it fucking owns.

Giant cro-magnon man trying to keep his ONLY FRIEND alive in murderworld was some of the most gripping stuff I've ever laid eyes on.

Like JU in the post up above, I finished up The Good Place and oof, that last episode made me ugly cry twice, first when Tahani made up with her family, and a second time during Chidi's farewell with Eleanor. And that's not counting all the other times it made me tear up in general. All the props to the cast for keeping it together during that episode, I don't know how they did it. Also to the costuming department for all the great outfits Kristen Bell got that season, I was so jealous of a lot of those outfits.

Also one last moment that I particularly loved near the end, spoilers ahead
A great moment that showed just how much alike Michael and Eleanor were, and a call back to one of Ted Danson's best moments in Season 1

I’m watching the last episode tonight.

They faked out a happy ending twice this season alone, so I have no idea what I’m in for.

I'm still back in season 3 of TGP, but I'm really glad people are enjoying it up through the end! I'll get there eventually.

I finished watching Defending Jacob last night, which is an Apple TV series starring Chris Evans and Michelle Dockery as the parents of a teen who is accused of murder. J.K. Simmons also pops in for a small but crucial role. Really solid family drama with amazing performances from everyone. It's only eight episodes, and Evans has that Infinity War beard for the duration. 🔥 Check it out, maybe!

I'm finally finishing up You're the Worst. I was back and forth on the first three seasons, but the final two are absolutely outstanding. I don't know if the show got better, or if I'm just better prepared for this type of humor now that so many people in public life act even worse than this. (Yay?)

Just started watching Cobra Kai, which I am going in to with no knowledge of Karate Kid outside of cultural osmosis.

Its Really Good and furthermore, everyone in this city is still focused on the results of a children’s karate tournament from 30+ years ago.

There are only 22 episodes of Julia and Jacques: Cooking at Home (2003) and my husband has been re-watching 2~5 of them every night at the end of the day for months. And you know what? It's still pretty good.

I would never have watched this on my own, let alone rewatch it, and certainly not this many times. But Julia Child is such a wonderful television personality and her rapport Jaque Pepin is delightful. There are still parts that make me laugh out loud at it every day.

Hard recommend to anyone who likes actively watching comfy cooking shows fully of corny jokes, and also works extremely well as inoffensive background noise that's easy to tune out but pleasant to notice.

I watched the first couple episodes of The Queen's Gambit. That is an excellent show, about a young chess prodigy. It is just really well made.

Bob's Burgers just aired its 200th episode. It was good. There was singing.

Probably controversial but absolutely correct take: the first 200 episodes of Bob's Burgers is the best such stretch of an animated sitcom.

Wrapped up the Good Place. I have a hard time thinking of another show that maintained such consistent quality throughout its run. Also one of the few shows with a major twist that was excellent before and after said twist. Just a thing of beauty.

Remarkably consistent, but the first 9 seasons of The Simpsons are pretty damn good

I'm not sure I've ever seen a bad episode of Bob's Burgers.

True, but those Simpsons seasons also have at least one clip show each, which is points off in my book.

I can't say I loved the recent (spoiled for grossness) butt worms Bob's episode, but the show has been remarkably, consistently good.

You are right. I assumed it was season 11 or later but it was a season 9 ep. Yeah, out of context the musical numbers aren't as fun. But Paint Your Wagon makes it the second best clips show.

Even the first one didn’t start the clip show bit until midway through the episode, and they were all ingrained into the actual plot.

It’s probably the gold standard of Clip Show Episodes, for any show that doesn’t make Clip Show Episode a punchline in and of itself

Clip shows made more sense in a world where everyone wasn't expected to watch every single episode of a series to enjoy it and you couldn't go to a website and find all of them there on demand

Just finished BNA: Brand New Animal. Starts off rather a stock trope mishmash--I was counting the number of times the main character got rescued from danger by the sexy mysterious wolf dude, and the count stayed ahead of the episode number until about halfway through, haha. But in the back half of the season, it gets a lot more thoughtful and intense. It has some of the usual Fantasy Racism problems, portraying "beastmen" with superhuman abilities as the plot's marginalized group, but by the end it interrogates the concept more than most. Many of the problems that on the surface appear to be "innate" beastman issues are revealed to be caused by privileged powers forcing people into inhumane situations as a pretext for genocidal, profiteering actions, which is pretty on point I felt like.
