The Adventure Time Thread - The Fun Will Never End

Anyone else watch the latest Adventure Time special. It was pretty good and it was nice to really dig into Marcie/PBs past and current relationships. Also, like the last special there's a reveal that its not set around the time of where we left the characters in the series with the reveal of a 20-something Finn popping in. I feel like while the specials lack a bit of the experimental flavour that I loved about the original show, they are definitely telling great stories, this one telling a story about Marceline being OK with maturing and being OK with having a vulnerable/softer side. Also, some good songs in this one.

You got monster probs?

Loved it, even though it’s pretty clear Jake ain’t around no more. .

Keep the gay kids stuff coming, tv, it’s all been golden.

I watched it and I liked it!

I...don't have too much more to say about it, actually, but I'm looking forward to whenever the last two specials drop.

I liked them both quite a bit. Considering there's a recurring reveal where it turns out each episode doesn't take place in the year you might suspect, I wonder how they intend to do that with the Peppermint Butler episode.

I didn't feel like the humour was landing as well in the second special, I guess that's okay as it was more of an emotional/character episode. It took me nearly the whole episode to realise Glass Boy was Amethyst. Duh.

I guess we may get some clue to Jake's fate in the final special "Together Again" - "Finn and Jake reunite to rediscover their brotherly bond and embark on the most important adventure of their lives"

If this ends up being the final final episode (which it may well be since no continuation of the show in this format seems to be on the cards at this point) my hope is that it works as an emotional pay-off in the way that the original series finale kind-of didn't for me. Getting the boys back together for one last adventure seems like it would be a good way to go

Some more adventure time dropped on HBO Max yesterday. This time actually involving Finn & Jake!

A bit heavy but I enjoyed it. Definitely feels like the end, and that’s cool. It’s been fun.

There's one more about Peppermint Butler I think. But yeah, that was a good ending for Finn and Jake.

Hey, that L'il Pep-But special is still happening.

It's weird that this is coming AFTER Together Forever, which seems like a good place to end things, even with a new Fiona and Cake series coming. I mean, its a good place to leave OG continuity...

Same as I ever was

We just finished the main series! Good finale, and I can't think of many shows that stay this strong throughout such a long run.

We don't have HBO Max, so I guess we'll do a free trial to see the specials, maybe? But I am looking very forward to a Fiona and Cake series.

More adventure time content hath dropped on Max. This time it’s a Fionna and Cake series with a sanity restored Simon as a main character.

Looks like it’ll skew a bit older and be pretty weird. Second ep has a grown up Finn bloodily impale a dragon fish thing in the face with a stake. .

I saw the preview. It's not because it looks worse in any way but I can't get excited. I saw three of the four specials but after the Finn and Jake beyond life and death story, I kind of felt... that's a good place to end, even though the finale was also a good place to end. Not to say I'll never watch it or it isn't good. That said, I think some of the creative forces seem decent but I'd be more interested if, say, Pat McHale was involved. I get why not considering he co-wrote an Oscar winning movie, but still.

Together again was the logical endpoint and a good place to call it good with the series, yeah, can’t argue with that.

Not sure if this a jumping off point for a proper spinoff series or just filling in some gaps like the movies did. I’m guessing the latter.
