Talking Turkey day - what does your family 'harvest' ?

So what do you usually have for Thanksgiving dinner (or lunch and also they can be plural and Friendsgiving also applies)? Do you have the usual suspects or do you have some of your own personal traditional dishes?

Vegetable lasagna is a common one in my family. But this thanksgiving we went with close friend who did a shared meal/potluck thing, this is what we all had:

Tortilla Soup (we brought this)
Cornbread (definitely the best one)
Turkey (It was shredded, I guess it was easier to eat)
Cranberry Sauce
Mashed Potatoes (didn't try)
Gravy (didn't try)
Beet Salad
Pasta Salad

Chocolate Cake
Pumpkin Cranberry Bread

It was quite delicious in the end

That beet salad sounds interesting - how was it? I don't eat beets often but there was and Italian restaurant where I live that served a nice beet salad.

Turkey (It was shredded, I guess it was easier to eat)
My dad never sliced the turkey at the table - he usually always cut it into slices before hand, put the slices in a foil pan for serving and then disposed of the bones.

We usually never really had the food at the table. Mom & Dad laid everything out cafeteria/buffet style and you would go through the line with your plate and get what you wanted. then you'd take your plate to the table(s) and eat. If you wanted more you could go back and get refills until you were satisfied.

We usually just had the staples:
  • turkey
  • ham
  • mashed potatoes
  • green bean casserole*
  • dressing - either home made or Stove Top
  • gravy
  • sweet potato casserole*
  • deviled eggs
  • rolls (or some other type of bread) and butter
  • pumpkin pie with Cool Whip (or a generic knockoff)
  • the can of cranberry stuff*
*My family had it at our Thanksgiving but I never ate it.

One unusual thing that was always served was oyster dressing which I think only my dad and a few other people ever ate.

But that wasn't the set meal - sometimes we'd have different things like veggie trays, corn (off the cob), fruit trays, peanut butter pie, fudge, various cookies and other sweets, chips and dips, ham roll ups or whatnot.

The table style is more convenient for dinners with just the immediate family (which is quite common, my whole family lives on 4 different continents). But for this year, we had it similar to how you described it.

The beet salad was okay; it was the standard "vegetable" dish so I didn't take much of it.

I wonder what the difference between turkey and ham is, I've never really had the large, fancy style of ham.
