Thread concept:
The basic idea is to list new games that you are interested in, as well as games you are potentially curious about or want to give wider attention to. You can briefly describe them or ask other people to help fill you in. The hope is that regular threads like these can act as a collective filter/discovery mechanism to help people decide what is worth checking out.

"New games" means any new title that is being released or ported this month in any capacity (not "backlogs/what you are playing this month"). The angle here is sharing your anticipation and promoting game discovery (as opposed to sharing comments about a first playthrough in progress - that belongs elsewhere).

  • If you want a handy list that covers most of the major upcoming games of the month, here's a few text lists of upcoming games:
Feel free to post other lists or list videos that you find useful.

  • Final request: If you are the first person to mention a game please provide (at minimum) a short sentence description. (If it is a very big AAA release though, then don't worry about it.) This is a good convention that makes the thread more useful as a discovery mechanism, and especially helps out anyone who doesn't follow the news as closely as you.

Earth Defense Force: World Brothers isn’t just a new EDF game (cause enough for celebration), it’s also the first on the Switch, and also it uses voxels instead of clunky polygons. Will this help or hinder the experience of exploding a million giant bugs and robots? DOESNT MATTER! All that matters is saving the Earth!

Rise Eterna is an SRPG that looks enough like Fire Emblem or Shining Force that I’d stop in my tracks and go “Huh, I DO like the look of that”. Looks perfect for anyone like me who felt that Three Houses was a bit too diluted of a Fire Emblem game

Rise Eterna looks interesting! I just saw it pop up on the eShop yesterday and it looks like it's trying to capture the GBA Fire Emblem titles with its own wrinkles.

Outside of that, I'm considering the Famicom Detective Club games down the road, but due to an excess of expenses hitting me this month, all of my game purchasing is being limited to...Limited Run stuff for May lol. Both of those are remakes of the Famicom Disc System originals and localized for the first time!

I want to get Resident Evil: Village, but I'd prefer to wait until I get a PS5. So unless I happen to strike gold and land one, seems like May will be a "catch-up on the backlog" month.

Touhou Kouryuudou ~ Unconnected Marketeers is the 18th flagship game in the series, and any time one of these comes out I'm obviously beside myself with excitement. The characters, music and stages featured in the demo promise great and new things for the series, and the system-side design is reinventing even more than usual, as there's now an upgrade system of deck-building cards purchased at the end of stages with money gathered from defeated enemies, or equipped for various effects before starting a playthrough. Touhou flips its central mechanical hook every game, and always manages to tie it to the themes of the narrative being told--I'm sure that remains true here too.

I've already pre-ordered Resident Evil Village so that's a given.

Aside from that, I've followed Biomutant for a few years now and it finally looks like it's coming out. It's an open-world action RPG where a (seemingly?) post-apocalyptic world is populated by warring anthropomorphic kung-fu critters. I don't know if I'll be picking it up since there's a number of things on the plate for June but I've got my eye on it.

I too am considering these. I might wait until they eventually go on sale though, because $35 each ($60 if you buy both) is a steep price to pay for what are essentially going to be primitive NES visual novels. Especially when I've got such a big backlog to make a dent in. I still wanna see what they're like, especially when they're semi-famous over in Japan. But ya. $35 each. And digital only. Woof. Especially bad value contrast when I paid $40 for a preorder of a physical copy of Great Ace Attorney 1&2 a few days ago.

Rune Factory 5 will be on my radar as well, since that's probably going to be decent since Rune Factory games are known quantities. 3D Stardew Valley sounds pretty good to me, and I liked Rune Factory 4 enough.

Oh right! I preordered that back when Best Buy had the Gamers Club thing so I'm getting that!

Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster is the game I'm looking forward to the most this month. I've always heard good things about the game so I can't wait to finally play it and it releases just a few days before my birthday.

I'm also interested in the Famicom Dectective Club games as well, but most of my gaming budget is already set for July so I'll just keep those on my wishlist.

Downloading now, thank you for the tip! I'll definitely buy it on Switch but will play a demo whereever.
This seemed fun but also a bit rough. Lots of odd text choices and typos, I wanted more specific options to toggle on/off for battlefield animation and music, and something was just off about the whole battle system.

That being said, the price on Switch is only $20?! It is definitely worth that.

And to add to the month, the Mass Effect Trilogy Remastered! I'd misremembered that it came out in June, but nope, it's out May 13th. Here's the thread! I am excited to romance Garrus again. Liara sucks though.

God help me, I'm probably going to pick up Mass Effect: Legendary Edition. I liked the originals a lot, despite it all, and I have good memories of my multiple playthroughs, so doing it again with more graphics sounds like a good time to me.

SUB NAUTICA BELOW ZERO, oh my god I am hyped for that game. Ironically, in the world of kaizo Mario, there's an entirely water-themed hack called Waterworld that is slated to release...one day later. Maybe not the best timing, there!

Ghosts n' Goblins Resurrection PS4

I'll probably pick up REVIII, Dark Alliance (PS2 version) and Nocturne Remastered once they go on sale.

Oh dear, the Biomutant reviews are really mixed. Sounds like it fell victim to feature creep and ended up a little too ambitious for what the small team could pull off. I’m still interested but will probably be waiting for a sale.
