Thread concept:
The basic idea is to list new games that you are interested in, as well as games you are potentially curious about or want to give wider attention to. You can briefly describe them or ask other people to help fill you in. The hope is that regular threads like these can act as a collective filter/discovery mechanism to help people decide what is worth checking out.

"New games" means any new title that is being released or ported this month in any capacity (not "backlogs/what you are playing this month"). The angle here is sharing your anticipation and promoting game discovery (as opposed to sharing comments about a first playthrough in progress - that belongs elsewhere).

  • If you want a handy list that covers most of the major upcoming games of the month, here's a few text lists of upcoming games:
Feel free to post other lists or list videos that you find useful.

  • Final request: If you are the first person to mention a game please provide (at minimum) a short sentence description. (If it is a very big AAA release though, then don't worry about it.) This is a good convention that makes the thread more useful as a discovery mechanism, and especially helps out anyone who doesn't follow the news as closely as you.

The only thing on my list for July is The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD and I'm thinking I might actually wait for impressions on that one, specifically how it handles with a Pro controller.

First and foremost for me is Blaster Master Zero 3, the concluding game in the Blaster Master remake trilogy; I still consider the first Zero to be not only the high point of that series, but possibly my favourite NES remake ever. 2 as also pretty good, but less spellbinding.

Monster Hunter Stories 2 also looks really spiffy, and the first game was the only MH game I genuinely enjoyed.

At the moment, I've got the Switch port of Ys IX and Great Ace Attorney Chronicles planned, and my preorder of the collector's edition of Cris Tales will hopefully arrive. However, I will snag Blaster Master Zero 3 and Monster Hunter Stories 2 later in the year.

I'm excited to play Great Ace Attorney Chronicles...next year when it comes to iOS (probably). I just got a PS5, so I'll probably be playing through Ratchet and then a few older titles before diving into anything new this month.

Great Ace Attorney was preordered the minute those went up. Same with Skyward Sword HD. Those will be the two bigguns that'll keep me busy for quite a while. This'll be the second time for me buying both. I stan both franchises, and both these entries are the pinnacle of both. I'll get Monster Hunter Stories 2 eventually, since that game looks great and I liked the first. But it's lower priority both financially and in time investment, and I doubt I'll have the stamina to power through a traditional RPG like this fully to begin with, so I'll prolly wait until the price comes down a bit on it.

On a side note, websites keep saying GAA will be available on PS4, but I can't find a physical listing for it anywhere which is a big bummer. I'm a big enough fan that I'd buy both physical copies, but it's not worth throwing money at it digitally for redundant copies. Still happy w/ the Switch version though; Ace Attorney has always been a handheld, Nintendo franchise to me anyways.

Hopefully my copy of Blaster Master Zero Trilogy (Asian version) ships this month. Looking forward to playing through the third game for sure.

There are plenty of games I'm planning on picking up this month and the one I'm most looking forward to is NEO: The World Ends with You. The first game is one of my favorite games on the DS and I've been hoping for a sequel for years so it's great to see one on the horizon. Other games that I'll be getting this month are The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Great Ace Attorney Chronicles (despite owning the trilogy on my Switch I've never played an Ace Attorney game, but my sister got me this and NEO: TWEWY as late birthday gifts so I should get around to it now in preparation), Ys IX, and Blaster Master Zero 3.

I'm in this merry boat myself. I was completely unsurprised but a tad disappointed that the followup was so late in coming, and that we're doing Shibuya again rather than seeing how the game works in a different district (or even a different city!), but I'm sure the game will be worth checking out regardless.

I remember being intrigued by the concept expressed in the demo for CrisTales, but it didn't give much of an impression of the fundamental gameplay systems, positive or negative, and I've learned by now that indie JRPGs can be really hit-or-miss on that front. I may seek impressions before committing to a purchase.

For anyone who has Xbox Game Pass, CrisTales is coming on day one. In fact, you can pre-download it now; unlocks on July 19th.
