I'd prefer a new thread for each book. I like to reread thoughts about, uh, stuff, and if I want to reread thought of, say, the third book, I don't have to look for where to start.

Maybe put the date a bit closer to the end, say the 20th of each month? Or the last week? I'd definitely like a time, where we are still at one book, but were we can just talk about the complete book. Halfway through seems a bit early for that. One week should give everyone the time to read through the book, and than have some discussion about it, as a whole.

How do we want to pick our September replacement? I know it seems a long way off but these sort of things tend to sneak up on you!
