Super Mariodome nomination thread - Piping in Music

Johnny Unusual

(He/Him)
As the world gets a little colder, it is good to remember the things that warm my heart. I’m of course talking about the plump little man with the mustache, Mr. Super M. Bros.

Here is our Super Mariodome. Now I know you are asking “didn’t we do a Mariodome?” We did. Now there’s nothing to stop us from rerunning a topic but that is not *exactly* my intent. See, when @Issun ran his Mariodome, which he did a stellar job on, BTW, he took an idea I was mulling over. So, yeah, there was some low key jealousy that he got to it first. But I was happy someone was getting to it. But he kept it mostly to the main Mario series where I had different plans. So I decided I’d wait a while before doing my own take. And now feels like the time!

So the rules are simple:

  1. List up to four “Mario” tunes
  2. Wait….
  3. When the matches start, the entries will be put into one-on-one matches for “what do you like better”
  4. Vote on the ones you like best!
Easy as that.

“Oh, so you can include any tune from the original core Mario series?”

Nope, think bigger!

“The sports games too?”

Bigger than that.

“Every game with Mario in it?”

Oh, even this is limiting.

We are going to not only include every game, but all the spin-offs. The Peach games, the Yoshi games, the Luigi games, the Wario games. Not just platformers but pretty much anything branded under the Mario umbrella. I would say Donkey Kong doesn’t quite count in that Mario was a spin off from him but you know what? He’s big in the Mario-verse. And not just the games. All media. The movies, the TV shows, the commercials, the OAV. Music ABOUT Mario. Fan music, whether it be completely original or not. Even stuff that isn’t music, if you want to put in a clip or even just say “this character”, though mostly I want to focus on audio or audio visual media.

The Marioverse is massive! So don’t let yourself be limited.

Are there any tunes out of bounds?

Just this one, as it is the only one to win a dome that applies.

But covers and remixes and different arrangements of the same tune are totally allowed.

If it is even remotely Mario-related, throw it in. The more variety, the better! The more obscure or off-beat, the better. Sure, it’s fun when your pick wins but to me, the real fun is sharing some favourite or amusing tunes! So find something you want to share or just celebrate a justly loved classic or modern hit!

Deadline is November 16th!

SMW - XOC (yes, the full album. Individual songs don't work out of context, you need the whole thing for full effect; and you said go nuts Johnny, you said get weird, it's in the rules Johnny you can't argue with the rules.)
Is it weird that I had the same exact thought about nominating this entire thing? I've loved this album since I discovered it in college.

I don't actually have anything to nominate at this time, just wanted to share some appreciation for this one.

Having thought about it some more, I've got exactly the thing for this. I'm nominating songs that are original pieces which were featured in Super Mario World romhacks.

1. Coral Labyrinth by RednGreen (featured in the hack Invictus by Juzcook)
2. The 9th Annual Vanilla Level Design Contest - Abstract Map by Torchkas (featured in the 9th Annual VLDC compilation by various creators)
3. YUMP 2 - Bowser's Castle by sincx, (featured in YUMP 2 by Jump Team)
4. Linda's World by Radix, ported to SMW by Dippy (featured in several hacks)

And we're up!
