Sometimes I buy the same game for the same platform in digital and physical.

Dang. I've never done that, but I've certainly considered it on several occasions while feeling too lazy to change game discs/cards/whatever.

I did once buy the digital and physical versions of an album separately.

Conversely, I’ve considered buying physical copies of digital games I’ve bought so I could delete the digital one and save fridge space.

I'm going to admit to my darkest secret. Sometimes I buy the same game for the same platform in digital and physical.

I'm not proud of this.

Y tho?

I mean, honestly, why? Like, if a game I already own (say, Streets of Rage 4) gets a physical release, I get the digital and physical for separate platforms (digital on PC, physical on Switch for that one). Why double up on the same system?

I've done that before if I really like a game and it goes on deep enough sale, because then I can keep playing it without messing with disks.

I don't do it with every game, but personally I have gotten a game physical before (usually because it was cheaper) then later picked up the digital version on the same system 'cuz it was on sale for a good price and I like the convenience of not having to switch discs/cards.

As not thrilled as I am about how finite digital media can be with closing shops and whatnot, most physical media is little more than an initial install these days and there are literally more games than one person could ever play.

I've bought Super Mario World every time I've been able to, which is, let's see:

SNES (twice - regular cart, and Super Mario All-Stars w/Super Mario World)
GBA
Wii
Wii U
New 3DS
SNES Classic

This is also me

Sonic the Hedgehog: Mega Drive
Sonic the Hedgehog: Android
Sonic the Hedgehog: 3DS
Sonic the Hedgehog : Mega Drive Mini
Sonic the Hedgehog: Switch
Sonic the Hedgehog: PS2 as part of the Sega Classics collection thing

I don't like Sonic the Hedgehog. I have never liked Sonic the Hedgehog. And yet I keep buying the blasted thing.

I buy digital because it puts less wear and tear on the system disc drive. In my experience the disc drive is the most likely thing to fail on the system. I play most games digitally.

I buy physical copies because if digital rights change or if PS4 service (or PS3) is discontinued I have a copy of the game I like.

All of the this is trumped by the fact that when the new system comes out, I rarely go back and play the old system...but I could play old games if I have the disc version.

I realize this practice is both excessive and dumb...which is why I'm not proud of it.

I love roughly 4/7 of the game, which is good enough for me.

What's tragic is that the SEGA AGES version on Switch cuts out the remaining 3/7 in Mega Play mode, which would be perfect for me... if not for the change in game rules that makes it a lot tougher.

Kazin

did i do all of that?

There's also apparently a Super Mario Bros Game & Watch which I also want because I'm fucking stupid.

I have this now. I like it a lot! I wish it were a bit more easily hackable, because I'd like to throw a couple more NES roms on there... Still, it's a neat little package. Feels good to use, the screen is great, I wish there were a headphone jack.

It’s so close to perfect, and yet I’m sad that they didn’t go the extra mile and port the Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch to it. That game deserves to be preserved and yet it’s one of the few games that was left out of the Gallery series.

Is this the only or best Mario thread we have?

I’m late to the game, but Mario Galaxy with Y button spins is about the greatest game of all time. I got all 120 stars and loved every minute, even Luigi’s Purple Coins.

Hate to say, but the version of Mario 64 on this collection is bad. There’s a ton of input lag and the image doesn’t even take up the full vertical size of the screen? Geez. After spending a couple hours with it I felt really disappointed.

Maybe I’ll try Sunshine again. The first time I played it I just didn’t like it.

When exactly are they going to take Super Mario 35 offline? I think I'd like to be playing it in its final moments.

So they either recognized their blunder and ordered more of the second set, or there is just a significant number of people like me who were burned by the first set and didn't bother with this one?

I think I have to do Animal Crossing on my phone to get the second one, which is annoying. Unless I can make a Home Circuit driver's license or whatever without the actual game?

Assuming it works on your phone*, I think all you really have to do is check in with the game during the event and make sure you link your My Nintendo account to it. Been a long time but I think the tutorial stuff's only a few minutes or so.

* With the update back in November, it's now the most demanding of the Nintendo mobile games available. Meeting the iOS/Android version and RAM requirements probably won't be too hard, but you'll need a 64-bit OS/CPU.

Two days after Mar10 day I got my 35th anniversary pin set!

I'd seriously consider trading it for one of the 1st wave sets if I could, but otherwise I'm happy with this. Even the box is nice.

Started a leisurely playthrough of Sunshine. It has its moments, but wow the the low points are so low that they're also retroactively making me like the Mario Galaxy games less, because it's reframing my least favorite parts of those games as being in continuity with the worst parts of Sunshine, instead of just being one-offs. For example, the Mario team was really into "terrible one-hit death racing game you can barely control" in the first decade of the 2000s, I guess.
