All right, got all 120 stars in SM64! I still think it's a superb game, even if the controls and camera continue to feel more annoying as the years go on, haha. I loved nearly every moment of replaying it :)

Wrapped up 120 stars in Mario 64 last night as well. The only thing I had to look up was the second star the rabbit had in the basement - I forgot you had to catch him twice lol. Most difficulty I had was 100 coins in Tick Tock Clock, though I really like that level's regular stars. Tiny Huge Island is the worst level in the game. My favorite is probably either Tick Tock Clock or Tall Tall Mountain.

After work today I'm probably going to start up Luigi in Galaxy, though I'm not going to commit to getting everything with him yet lol.

Whomstever created the Spring power up in Mario Galaxy needs to be put in the corner and made to think about their crimes.

Especially the level design where the fucking thing shows up. The rest of the game has its foibles in terms of how gravity changes can fuck with controlling Mario, but this was first time I genuinely hated playing the game. It was fucking eye teeth to pull off. Ughhhhh.

that's what I immediately think of whenever people call Galaxy the best Mario; SPRING.

Really does mar an otherwise excellent and near perfect game.

I like the Spring :0

Luigi is fun, but I'm going to hate the 100 purple coin challenges with the slippery fucker lol

Totally fair Kazin; everyone comes to every bit of a game differently. For me, the spring was my bane. I'm glad you enjoy it! Wish I could haha.

I feel like the way your character handles in Galaxy is so good that on the whole most of the challenges For Super Players Only ending up being a smidge easier with Luigi. You have to adjust for the slipperiness, but in most cases that's totally possible and extra jumping power is absolutely worth it.

Did they adjust the difficulty otherwise at all as Luigi? The spider boss just kicked my butt, took me two tries!

Mario is so clumsy in comparison to Odyssey, so I find this comment weird. Whenever the camera changes or gravity difference your controls don’t make sense for a few seconds which definitely leads to cheap deaths.

The gravity issue is especially apparent when you can run around a thin tube. You’ll stop moving and run into a fucking obstacle. I’m just glad they made it better in Odyssey.

I just... I disagree? Mario feels only slightly different in each game to me. And I just played both!

I'll tell you what has to stop in every future Mario game: Mario running around holding his ass when he touches fire. I can say from the past few days experience it sucks in 64, Galaxy, and Odyssey. I hate it lol

Phantoon

I cuss you bad
Yeah, you can recover from it, so it's preferable to a bottomless pit. It still puts the fear of god into you around lava, so it works well if you ask me.

It gives me hope, though. Then I fall off the ledge because Mario goes nuts. I hate it lol

I love this whole series. 64, Sunshine, Galaxy, Odyssey... All fantastic as far as I'm concerned. I'd really like to revisit Galaxy 2, but I don't want to go back to the Wii version after the improved controls on Switch...
Oh god, this picture just reminded me that I did all the purple coin levels with Luigi back when this game was new. I think I'd blocked that out.

I'm having fun doing everything as Luigi - I think I'm going to get all 120 stars with him, too lol

I know I've beaten this drum before, but you can literally have almost the same experience through Dolphin emulation. I don't go this deep into the setup myself, I use the right analog as the pointer; but you can hook up a pro controller to the PC, map the motion of the pro controller to the pointer, map the rest of the controls however comfortable, map the shake to a button, and play the game in 1080p widescreen.

I know it's not as plug and play as loading up a pre-configured Switch game... but it's there. And for me, Galaxy 2 is worth the effort (along with a few other titles)

You know, I might do this. I do have my gaming PC again and should use it (note to Gaer: yes I will sub again, I promised I know, I will play through the rest of ShB soon, please don't kill me). Do you have a link I could follow? I still have your Skyward Sword control mapping guide bookmarked lol. I might get 2 set up as soon as I beat Galaxy 1 with Luigi 100%...

I did that too, but I definitely enjoyed doing it with Mario more. Glad you're having a good time with Luigi though!
