Straight Outta Nowhere! Scooby-Doo Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog

Look, it's just a rumor currently and hasn't been confirmed by Warner Bros Time Warner AOL Time Warner WarnerMedia Warner Bros Discovery yet. But man, here's a crossover that actually deserves to be made. Tom and Jerry in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory? No way. Jetsons Meet WWE? Fuhgettabout it. Bringing back long dormant Cartoon Network favorites by pairing them with classic Hanna-Barbera characters? Now that's the ticket! I mean, hell, it worked for Johnny Bravo all those years ago.

I'm certainly curious about where the balance between the two properties will lie in terms of cartoon antics. Scooby-Doo tends to be more grounded in realism (well, real-ish) with wacky antics while Courage the Cowardly Dog had comparatively much more graphic cartoon violence in the vein of grossout cartoons of the 90s and early aughts.

Also I wonder if Eustace and Muriel will have new VAs? I know Eustace was replaced during the show's run due to his first late actor's failing health, and given how long it's been since the show originally ended I wouldn't be surprised if they both had to be replaced now.

Anyway, certainly interested in seeing how this pans out. Nice to see Courage actually showing up again at any rate.

This... is not encouraging. Apparently Jon Dilworth wants no part of this, so his production company Stretch Films won't be involved. So my question is this... if he's not on board, what's the point? Can anyone else besides the creator capture the inscrutable gothic weirdness of the show?

Also, I'm worried about the Velma factor. She's been leaving a five year trail of party poop behind her wherever she goes, Velm-splaining away anything that doesn't fit squarely in the realm of science and logic. Look, you've been a teenager for fifty years. You talk to a dog. You've got no tidy explanation for that, do you? Good, now shut up.

That certainly is concerning.

I mean, you don't absolutely need the original creator on board with something for it to be good (see DOOM 2016, Mysteries Incorporated), but Warner Bros.' track record doesn't exactly inspire confidence. I mean, we've already seen Tom and Jerry forced into direct-to-DVD animated adaptations of film properties Time-Warner wanted to keep locked in the water tower, and the less said about the post-McCracken years of The Powerpuff Girls, the better.

I’ll be honest and say that my knowledge of the Scooby Doo franchise outside of the original run and Mystery Inc is shaky at best, and while I enjoyed it, I didn’t see enough of Courage to speak authoritatively either way.

So I can’t say how this looks to fair compared to the other Scooby movies. And it’s kind of weird to bring back Courage this way, 20 years after the end of his show

This is the cartoon equivalent of Peanut Butter meeting Chocolate AND I AM HERE FOR IT.

I remember the previews for Rob Schneider's sitcom on CBS. The announcer crowed, "Coming to CBS on January 12th!" I turned to my stepdad and said, "Happy birthday, Dad! Hope you like crap!"

The joke was not appreciated.

I am prepared for this to be dumb and bad without the original Courage the Cowardly Dog crew's blessing but all I ask is that Eustace have one remark about how he now has to deal with two stupid dogs directly followed by a blatant 2 Stupid Dogs cameo.
