I've been spending way too much cash on Locker decorations at Hotlantis, that I've already gotten a badge for being such a loyal customer. Locker customization is such a non-consequential aspect of the game, and yet I've sunk most of my funds into it. It's great. (Now to go back to Grizzco to refill my wallet...)

I'm of a mixed mind of the daily login incentives that they've put into place this time around. You get a huge bonus to your Catalog points for winning your first game of each day, and the gachapon machine in the Lobby is much cheaper for your first pull. On the one hand, daily login bonuses can be a nefarious hook, to make players keep on playing for the wrong reasons. On the other hand, man do I like getting stuff and being fresh. And, you know, the game is already fun to play even without those incentives. We'll see where I'm at on this point a few months from now when a new season starts.

This certainly is more Splatoon. The single player seems much more substantial this time, at least.

It’s a good thing, too, as I have been getting a lot of connection issues during Turf Wars. Way more than with either of the other Splatoon games. Did my internet connection get worse since 2, or is this a problem others are having?

YMMV but 3 is light an absolute dream to me compared to 2, which was an absolute nightmare of disconnects, communication errors and endlessly loading lobbies

3 is an improved internet experience for me. Did you rearrange anything in your house so the connection between the router and Switch might be obstructed? Is it just Splatoon that has issues or do other online games disconnect a lot?

I got a bigger TV, so I had to move the Switch Dock behind it. Monster Hunter Rise’s online still worked fine after that, though.

Maybe I could just play multiplayer in handheld mode? I do forget the Switch can do that.

To those who care, it looks like an amiibo restock is trickling out in some places. I just ordered Callie and Marie from Best Buy.

Single player beaten. I liked it quite a lot with the exception of one boss that just wasn't fun.

Also this is definitely the best version yet of Calamari Inkantation. (note: the comments spoil the last bit of single player, so maybe don't look at those if you haven't finished).

I need to find this mp3 and use it as workout music.

Finally, I just learned that the Switch app posts clothes that will be available in game through Murch and they're way better than anything I can find in the store at my current catalog level.

I’ve barely made headway into the single player. Heard it gets pretty ridiculous!

I took place in some Splat Fest tonight. I went Team Fun, ’cuz I’d rather be dead than bored.

I kind of wasn’t feeling Deep Cut as a group but then they showed up in the campaign as Team Rocket and ohhh man that’s inspired. I’m into it.

I couldn’t find a single player to get a match with in either VS or Salmon Rush tonight. Is the game broken after the latest update?

Luckily, my favorite part of the game, the Story, is always there.

To those who care, the new amiibo are up for preorder. No 3-pack this time, so they are expensive 😤

Next Splatfest is Nov 11th-13th and is Pokemon themed.

"New weapons and stages, new gear and victory emotes, and game modes are all on the way. Fans can get a first look at a trailer that just went live.

One of the biggest additions is Big Run, an event that brings a twist to the co-op survival action of the Salmon Run game mode. The first Big Run is scheduled to take place when the Salmonids invade the Wahoo World stage later this year, with more information including how to participate coming in the future.

Another aspect worth highlight are the new X Battles. These require players to reach an elite rank in Anarchy Battles and risk X Power to challenge their way up the leaderboards. X Battles will arrive on December 1, along with three new weapons (a new Roller, Charger and Shooter) and ten returning weapons from previous Splatoon games, including some with modified sets.

Also as part of Chill Season 2022 in Splatoon 3, the new Brinewater Springs makes its “fresh” first appearance, and Flounder Heights from the series’ first entry is making a comeback. Also, as previously mentioned, we’ll be seeing a new collection of gear, custom titles, victory emotes, stickers, and more. New gear and items will be available in the shops."

Also, Water Starter winning the Splatfest so wholly is further proof of my theory that I am not playing against actual people in Splatoon, but squid children from the future. They would go for the water Pokémon...

Power is currently winning the Splatfest?! What is this nonsense.

I mean as usual they're all really close to 33% but I didn't expect power to be the one edging it out. Huh. Not like I'm any good and helping team wisdom but hoping to get a couple games in this weekend.

Power and Wisdom were really close in the conch shells, and courage lagged way behind.

I'm on courage myself and won maybe one, two at the most of my games so far, but this is always my personal Splatfest experience. Look forward to the festivities, then when they start, get a reminder that what actually happens is my teeth get brutally kicked in over and over.

Team Power here and we are steamrolling everybody; the Courage lot do give a good fight though.

I've been rolling on Team Wisdom for the Splatfest, and I've been holding moderately well so far. Definitely feeling like Power is the tougher matchup than Courage, however. Also, my Pro stats have been unusually low? My rating is in the high 1400s, which is a few hundred lower than what I normally see. It's a little bit annoying since I primarily play Splattershot Nova, which is heavily into supporting and less into direct splatting, and I feel like I'm in a rating bracket where my support isn't meshing well with what my teammates are doing. Maybe I need to try to switch to a more frontline-style weapon to finish out the Splatfest.

There's a new Splatfest starting tonight that has some cool items, but in case you're like me and couldn't figure out how to redeem them you have to click the button in the news post in the Switch channel, THEN they'll show up in the game. Kinda weird, but I like the look of the crown and top hat very much so I'm glad I got them.

Side Order, the new DLC with a roguelike single player mode, is out! I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but I'm excited. Anyone else been messing with this?

I've made enough runs to make my first clear tonight, and it's fine? There aren't really that many different objective types and the map pool feels kind of small. But it's still Splatoon, and its core mechanics are still fun to play around with. The game gives good incentives to try out different weapon kits, since you can only make a very limited number of unlocks from each one. And it's remarkably easy to decide to turn on or off any meta-progression bonuses in case you want to tailor your level of challenge or run generation parameters. While it's not as outstanding as Octo Expansion was for Splatoon 2, it's still fairly solid. Solid enough that I want to try completing the mode with every kit, or at least get as far as unlocking every kit.

i am not an action roguelite fan and i definitely wouldn't be playing this if it wasn't splatoon; now that i've cleared a couple weapons i still feel this way, and the game definitely has a lot of the usual things that put me off. but it's splatoon. i spent a long time learning to play squiffer and splat charger last year and i was really pumped when i unlocked marie's kit because of that...after i got my first clear (with a lot of bonus lives and some other stuff) with crab tank splatana i went back for another round on charger. i feel like the power ceiling on that kit is really high but it's not very accessible for people who aren't comfortable with the weapon. if you get a chance to max out charge time it fires full power shots instantly like the grizzco charger in salmon run, that pierce and do over 2k damage at a time. and then you have one of the best specials in the mode to boot, and one that works perfectly for recharging.

i'm excited to figure out the rest at least a little, and see whatever other remaining lore and stuff they've got coming, but it's pretty obvious to me that the charger style is going to remain my favorite by far. main weapon focus is how i've come to prefer to play splatoon anyway, and the range and damage makes charger feel extremely powerful on many maps which are painful for other weapons, and still great on almost all of the others. weirdly, it feels more proactive because you can actually just pop most threats instead of having to weave through multiple hordes just to take out one sniper or something (who then respawns in 10 seconds). there are a couple maps where it's the other way around and having the vampire survivors action of a powerful drone build can easily handle hordes which are horribly hard to shoot at, but they're much rarer.

there's not a ton of variety in the stages and there's a lot of downtime, but i'm enjoying it enough to keep going. honestly, i kind of prefer that the stages are pretty much the same in a moderately sized pool aside from danger variants, even though obviously some of them are totally hateable. i find it way more charming to play the worst level ever and see that the designers have described it as "sisyphean" than to just encounter some procgen thing with no particular human touch behind it. it definitely feels, more generally, like the zones maps are brutal slogs on purpose (and seem to have desireable bonuses more often)...there's aspects of the game that feel overtuned to me, but i also realize that's a little "how it works" since i haven't powered up nearly all the way and certainly plenty of people are successful with few or none of them.

I've got 4 weapons clear now (shooter, dualies, splatling, and charger) and two more where I died on the last phase of the final boss (bow and slosher). I've got two keys in all the other weapons I've unlocked except brella and brush for now. I'm enjoying it! It can get frustrating; without the chips to make charger instant it can be a pain in the ass (although the single chip I got was still definitely a huge, necessary upgrade). I pulled out that win by the skin of my teeth, where the other 3 rapid shooters were much more comfortable.

I agree that there could have been just a little more variety with the stages and objectives. Like, just one more boss type, one more objective type, a few more stage layouts. I kind of hate all of the objectives for different reasons, which is good balance, I guess; I think I hate them equally. I also wish that they wouldn't insist on constantly offering me Rush Attack and Soundwave Damage chips on builds that have none of those damage types, but I guess that's just how the roguelike do.

ETA: cleared with brella, despite my expectations. Feel like I got lucky on which ults the boss chose to use, to some degree. Crab tank was a major MVP in that run.

Cleared with every palette, thereby "finishing" the DLC. Overall, I think it's a bit short as far as roguelikes go - it didn't take a long time to get the meta-upgrades (hacks) needed to make clearing more a matter of course than not, and then it was just a matter of going through with each weapon. But I like it! I'm going to do some more runs so I can afford the four hats you can buy from the shop for normal-game stuff (two down, but I need 1,221 for the last two, so that's gonna be a good 4-5 runs) (I don't feel like using Risky Rewards because I don't feel like limiting my hacks, I'd rather have more easier runs than fewer challenge runs at this point. I might change my mind though.)

I like the different builds you can end up with, though I have to say that a drone-heavy build with lots of drone charge and plenty of weapons feels particularly fun, especially when paired with lucky-drop pickups like the drone battery and a high chain. It's relatively few weapons that actually specialize in straight power, in the end. And some of the categories are just less useful to stack than others, it feels like, regardless of the weapon. But that's fine.

Excited for the new season, although my enthusiasm is slightly dampened because the kit on the new e-liter variation suuuucks (squid beakon and kraken royale? eat me.) Not gonna stop me from getting the foil sticker though.

I'm a Squid Beakon convert. It's fun to keep them running at strategic points to help my party, and it's not like I was particularly fond of the mines on the main kit. Kraken Royale...is still kind of bad, BUT it provides a definite patch for a hole in the kit (i.e. someone is rushing up on you to fight in close quarters. Suddenly I'm invincible and my presence will splat you, haha eat shit) that has come in handy a few times (although more often than not they splat me while I'm transforming, boo).
