Already revealing new mechanics and tech. Also styles are now gender neutral which is really cool.

I'm really intrigued that they call it the City of Chaos when Chaos won the final Splatfest. If the final battle guided the game production that's going to blow my mind.
It was the same with the first game, where the final Splatfest was Callie vs. Marie (Marie won)
Good news! There was a trailer about some of the Salmon Run additions released a while ago.Oh how I hope theres a bit more to Salmon Run and cooperative stuff this time!
Given how little they talked about it, I'm suspecting another 3-ish hour single player campaign. I'd hope at least it's a mixture of traditional Splatoon single player levels with Octo Expansion style challenges to spice up the level design.
If Internet sleuths are to be believed, Shiver may be non-binary. Localizations seem to be universally avoiding gendered language for that character, and that character alone. If true, neat!I went instantly ride-or-die on the blue one. Shiver?
I can't speak to Splatoon 3 at all, but you're already close to a partial solution: in the Octo Expansion you typically have a choice between 3 weapons on each stage. So not quite total freedom, but more flexibility and I don't think any times where a single specific weapon is required for a typical stage. It's been a while, but I think most or all stages that don't give you a weapon choice only do so because the weapon doesn't matter, and/or has a particular gimmick like "Push this big ball around with your ink shots."I finally splurged on NSO+ and with it got the Octo expansion for Spla2n, and after loading it up I decided to first try and finally finish the normal story campaign. With a few more levels left to go I've come to realize just why I bounced off the single player to begin with: Shelldon's Special Requests. Turns out nothing torpedos my desire to keep playing the single player stages more than forcing me to play them for the first time with a weapon I dislike. I'm in one of the last stages of area 5 and the game decided to stick a Hero Roller in my hands and after failing the stage 5 times I just had to walk away from it for the evening.
Spla3n hopefully won't make the same boneheaded choice. Suggest a specific weapon, fine whatever, just give me the choice toss it aside and stick to what I like.
