I'm really intrigued that they call it the City of Chaos when Chaos won the final Splatfest. If the final battle guided the game production that's going to blow my mind.

It was the same with the first game, where the final Splatfest was Callie vs. Marie (Marie won)

Can't wait to dive back into the world of Splatoon! Also they brought back the Inkzooka from the first game, no more being splatted mid-special for me.

So stoked. After probably near 500 hours on Splatoon 2, I tried to log back in for the recent Splatfest and found that my save data had somehow not made it to the cloud or over to my system when I migrated my data from my old Switch to my new, and all my progress was gone - forget the rankings, but unlocking and leveling up all that equipment, the weapons, etc. Heck, I hadn't even finished the original single-player campaign or gotten into Octo expansion (though I suppose I can go back through that more easily than re-grind all the multiplayer shit out).

I was sad, but said to myself, it's OK, I guess I'll wait for Splatoon 3 to come out. (NB: even though I am employed by Nintendo, I did not then know anything about Splatoon 3, not even its existence in development; nor do I currently know anything but what's been publicly announced.) And lo, an announcement! Here we go, 2022!

I am so hype for this, but I have realized that I've never finished the single player mode in either Splatoon 1 or 2. Boy is looking for the Wii U for me; unfortunately the tablet seems to be MIA.

Given how little they talked about it, I'm suspecting another 3-ish hour single player campaign. I'd hope at least it's a mixture of traditional Splatoon single player levels with Octo Expansion style challenges to spice up the level design.

Looking at some of the online reactions, I have a sneaking suspicion that Big Man will totally blow Shiver and Frye out of the water in popularity contests.

Even the teases show more stuff than was ever in the last two campaigns (your Salmonid buddy works as a grappling hook?! Who are the Mammalians?). Them playing coy is really stoking the fanxiety however.

I finally splurged on NSO+ and with it got the Octo expansion for Spla2n, and after loading it up I decided to first try and finally finish the normal story campaign. With a few more levels left to go I've come to realize just why I bounced off the single player to begin with: Shelldon's Special Requests. Turns out nothing torpedos my desire to keep playing the single player stages more than forcing me to play them for the first time with a weapon I dislike. I'm in one of the last stages of area 5 and the game decided to stick a Hero Roller in my hands and after failing the stage 5 times I just had to walk away from it for the evening.

Spla3n hopefully won't make the same boneheaded choice. Suggest a specific weapon, fine whatever, just give me the choice toss it aside and stick to what I like.

I can't speak to Splatoon 3 at all, but you're already close to a partial solution: in the Octo Expansion you typically have a choice between 3 weapons on each stage. So not quite total freedom, but more flexibility and I don't think any times where a single specific weapon is required for a typical stage. It's been a while, but I think most or all stages that don't give you a weapon choice only do so because the weapon doesn't matter, and/or has a particular gimmick like "Push this big ball around with your ink shots."

Beta/Demo/Splatfest is tomorrow:

From 9AM-3PM PT, ink up the turf against one team at a time. Then, from 3PM-9PM PT, take on the brand-new Splatfest Tricolor Turf War Battles.

Also if you don't already have Nintendo Switch Online, participating in this tomorrow gets you a free week which is very cool!

My copy was delayed in shipping and didn't get here Friday, now it might be delayed again so I won't get to start playing until tomorrow. Boooooo.

The single player is amazing, a whole bunch of fanxiety about nothing lol.

Also being able to throw eggs in Salmon Run seems like a small change but man it absolutely changes how the entire game is played, it's wild.
