For you vinyl people, The Protomen are doing a new small printing of their Act III 10" single. Limited to 500 copies, but it is only two songs. Or just get the two songs for $2.

One of the reasons I always look forward to Bandcamp Friday is that Boris, a Japanese experimental rock/metal band and one of my favourites, has taken the opportunity to do digital re-issues of rarities from their back catalogue— a huge boon when a lot of them were vinyl-only and had rips to match. This month really takes the cake though, with New Album 2009, a never-before-released early and alternate version of one of their previous albums. Exciting stuff for a diehard fan like me!

Not only is it Bandcamp Friday again, but there's a new Godspeed You! Black Emperor album. Today is a good day.
Best music they've made since the reunion.

I came across this banger earlier this week:

and fortuitously, all of The 8-Bit Big Band's albums (including the latest one with Snake Eater) are on Bandcamp, so that's where my money's going this time around.

(Dives into their youtube channel)

Yes. This is good. Thank you.

Unless I missed something, today is the last announced Bandcamp Friday, so dig into your wishlist and find yourself something nice! I enjoy listening to jazz at work so I'll be picking up insaneintherainmusic's two Pokemon jazz albums, Sinnohvation and Alola That Jazz. What are you getting?

My friend who I posted about earlier in this thread (the album she was on didn't win the Grammy sadly) is matching purchases of this track with donations to India so seems like a good time to plug that:

SUPPORTING COVID-19 RELIEF IN INDIA: for the first month of this release (April 30-May 31), 100 percent of proceeds of this release will benefit BREATHE INDIA, which works to deliver oxygen concentrators for New Delhi. Learn more and donate directly here: https://milaap.org/fundraisers/support-arrange-oxygen-concentrators-in-delhi

Edit: Oh wait, maybe the matching was only last week? Still, the proceeds are going to the charity.

Picked that up, thank you for sharing!

Since this is the last Bandcamp Friday we know of, I'm gonna plug a new EP from a good friend of mine who's been mostly out of work since the pandemic hit (he's a touring musician). He's in a band with Disparition (who some of you may know as the guy who scores Welcome to Night Vale), and they made a collaborative EP for a game jam based on the tabletop RPG Troika. If you like music that sounds like it could be the soundtrack to a 16-bit JRPG with a bit of a sci-fi bent, please check it out!

This is really pleasant to listen to, thanks!

The usual monthly Bandcamp Fridays are over, but Bandcamp will be doing another fundraiser for the Juneteenth (that's June 18, this Friday).

This Friday, June 18th, from midnight to midnight Pacific Time, we’ll hold our second annual Juneteenth fundraiser, where we donate 100% of our share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund to support their ongoing efforts to promote racial justice through litigation, advocacy, and public education.

Bandcamp Friday isn't over! It's just on a little break. The next one will be August 6th, and then they'll continue on the first Friday of every month through the rest of 2021.

But yeah, good fundraiser on this Friday nonetheless.

It's Bandcamp Friday again tomorrow and I haven't been paying any attention to new music lately. What should I check out, friends?

Recently I was introduced to TPR, a pianist who puts out albums of video game music covers in his "Melancholy Music from..." series. I'd call them more serene than melancholy, generally, but the arrangements are very good and occasionally feature other instruments such as cello and oboe. I bought more than I probably should have, but I'm always in search of good music to work to, and this fits the bill nicely.

Perhaps you'd like a sample:

I missed your original post but holy shit nothing could be more up my alley than chill piano covers of Secret of Mana music. Very yes.

Tomorrow (12/3, so more like today by the time anyone reads this) is the final Bandcamp Friday, unless they decide to carry this into 2022. Anyone planning to pick anything up? I want to check out Lily Konigsberg's new one and I think there's something else I'm forgetting, hopefully I'll remember in time!

I decided to pick up the Inscryption soundtrack. It might not be eminently listenable outside of the game, but there are some moods on that album, and it's not very expensive.

I've reached a terrible balance where my wishlist is so big and so full of things that I like enough to bookmark but not necessarily enough to buy, especially with how irregularly I actually listen to the stuff I buy as opposed to combing through for new stuff, that I'm not really sure what to pick up or not anymore. I do wish Bandcamp had slightly more robust organizational and listening options on their website... I may need to download an actual music-player program and grab my collection as mp3s. I should probably do that anyway for backup purposes, come to think of it...

I've downloaded Dopamine for that purpose (among others), and I very much like it!

It's Bandcamp Friday! In addition to the most recent Low album that I mentioned in my last post, here's what I've picked up:

Titan to Tachyons - Cactides: Local NYC surreal power trio. Not quite metal, not quite jazz, not quite math rock or prog. Hard to describe, but very good. Check it out for yourself.
Town Portal - Of Violence: Instrumental post-metal trio from Copenhagen. A little sludgy, also mathy. Coincidentally, this was recorded and mixed by my friend Scott from the band Kowloon Walled City, a great band in their own right. In fact...
Kowloon Walled City - Piecework: I already own this album, but if you like heavy music at all, you owe it to yourself to grab it too. Crushing sludge. A friend of mine describes it as "a sonic mean mug". One of my favorite albums from 2021.

I gave this a spin on your recommendation and quite like it! Though I might be too used to doom/drone metal, because I don't find it particularly crushing… more like post-hardcore with some chunky riffs. But that was honestly a welcome surprise, because not only do I like post-hardcore, but it reminds me a bit of Helms Alee— another band that counts sludge in their mélange, and who has a sound I quite like. Good stuff!

Also, great band name.
