I wonder why sometimes they skip months and other times they don't? Is this a slow time for album-buying?Hey guess what! This Friday, September 4th, is another Bandcamp Friday. My last post reminded me that I still need to check out Uranium Club, this seems like a good excuse.
I assumed some C-level person decided they couldn't do it every month anymore, but I've never seen any explanation about why they pick one month over another.I wonder why sometimes they skip months and other times they don't? Is this a slow time for album-buying?
Man, Aes puts out so many albums. I've got a couple of his older ones (Labor Days and None Shall Pass) and I've listened to Impossible Kid a bunch, but which others would you say are highlights? This week! Two days from now, October 2nd. Right on time, there is a new Aesop Rock/Blockhead album for me to preorder! I also forgot about last month entirely after posting about it so maybe I'll look into Uranium Club for real this time.
He's been on a real tear for a while now, yeah! Of the post-Impossible Kid albums, I really like Garbology (also produced by Blockhead, like the two older ones you've got), Integrated Tech Solutions, and Black Hole Superette. All three of them have pretty different vibes -- Garbology feels more akin to the older records to me, where the lyrics are more opaque and slightly combative; Integrated Tech Solutions and Black Hole Superette are both a little more laid back and even playful at times. If there's a through line, I'd say all three of them really give me the impression of someone who's mastered his craft and feels the freedom to use it to express whatever's on his mind. They've all got the virtuosic delivery he's famous for, and also some unexpectedly emotional gut punches that can come out of nowhere.Man, Aes puts out so many albums.
