INCOMING TRANSMISSION FROM VIDEO KNIGHT.

THE MASTER needs our help! Through the process of fair voting on the Internet, we will determine the fifty best horror movies of all time, then we will force The Skeleton to watch them! In order to verify this filmography, you must follow these simple steps:

  • Assemble a list of your personal top 25 (or fewer) horror films, ranked in order, and direct message them to Dracula.
  • Complete your list and send it before midnight on Friday, November 13th!
  • That's it!!!

But wait, I know you have questions. Questions like, "Video Knight, what counts as a horror movie?"

Well, there's certainly some disagreement on the matter. Horror bleeds into other genres, and other genres bleed into horror. In some cases it isn't especially clear: Alien, while certainly a sci-fi film, is absolutely a horror film. But Disney's The Black Cauldron, while containing many horror elements, is not a horror film. Use your best judgment. If you're truly not sure, send your questions to Dracula, and he will be the final arbiter.

At any rate, the horror film must be a horror film. Not a Netflix limited series, not a broadway musical, and not a video game.

I know you can do it!

See you on Friday the 13th!

So I'm guessing a TV mini-series is also right out? Now what about short films and anime movies? Also, do we have to vote for specific movies or can we vote for an entire series?

Looking forward to this. Just in time for Hallowee- oops. So close.
Well, at least we/Drac get this as a consolation prize:
Friday, November 13th

No TV mini-serieses. Short films and anime films should be fine. Vote for single films, not an entire film cycle.

Bulgakov

Yes, that Russian author.
(He/Him)
If this were "most horrifying movies" it would be too easy, because I could just start listing marvel films.

Octopus Prime

Mysterious Contraption
(He/Him)
What about movies that would fall under the category of “spoopy”. Your Nightmare Before Christmases or Gremlins or Addams Families or the like?

Not frightening in the slightest (except perhaps for the very young/the “Do You Hear What I Hear” part), but plainly shooting for a spooky vibe.

Generally I think those types of movies count. I say put 'em on your list and I'll let you know if I think it doesn't fit.

I would suggest that people put the year of release or something if there's any ambiguity. The horror genre has a lot of remakes.

Excellent suggestion. I have a pretty good general knowledge of what's what in the horror world, but expect follow-up from me if I'm not sure which version of a movie you mean.

I think I'll pass on this. I'll enjoy Drac's presentation but horror is so not my jam, its marmalade.

(He/him)
Horror is not my jam, either, but I've watched so many intersectional horror movies (where horror is the sub-genre instead of the main one) that I'll take a stab at it. My list is gonna be short andbweird, though, and I expect Dracula to filter out a few titles.

That said, Who Framed Roger Rabbit is so a horror film, Judge Doom should be up there with Jason and Michael Myers just because of the number of nightmares caused.

Johnny Unusual

(He/Him)
OK, starting with a list of 52. Lets see what fat I can trim. Some I felt bad not including in my initial list. There are also a few I feel will make it onto other peoples list but not mine since I consider them thrillers rather than horror, though I can hardly fault them for disagreeing with me. After all, horror is a genre about one's reaction to it and isn't easily pigeonholed at times.

I've let some nonstandard picks through already, so don't worry too much about it.

Kirin

Summon for hire
(he/him)
Yeah, I'm also not really a watcher of mainstream horror but I'm'a take a stab at a list anyway. Definitely gonna be a lot of comedy-horror and merely-spooky stuff on there, and we'll still see if I even make it to 25. (Pity series are out or I could add a bunch of horror anime, but I understand keeping it to movies.)

My list was about half horror comedies and most of the other stuff was more or less straight horror.

I had a lot of stuff from the 80s and 90s but I think that was because I watched a lot of movies (of every genre) on cable during those decades.

Oh yeah, and if you'd like to provide short writeups about your choices, I'll include them in the main list (if they make it on the list)!

I've narrowed it down to 27. I have a bit of shuffling to do and blurbs to write up, but my list's coming together!

Here's another reminder to send me some spookies! Y'all got ONE WEEK. I've gotten some very good lists in already. Excited to see more!

I had sent my list a few days ago but I just sent Drac some blurbs for my picks. There's still time to get yours in before the deadline.

Send me your lists before midnight tomorrow! (I may extend the deadline over the weekend as well, we'll see)

I somehow missed this thread until now, but I can definitely get a list together soon. Glad I found it in time!

Just dashed off my list. Ordering them was unexpectedly painful. I guess I like horror films more than I might have thought!
