seems to have been undecided between having the city crushed by a giant fist and having it seared by an eye-beam, before finally deciding just to do both.

Well for starters the city seems to have fired off a giant, sharp, MCU skybeam into that cosmic hand's unblinking eye. If I were a giant golden-green fist with an eye on the heel I would probably be upset too.
