RIP Kevin Conroy

As I said on Discord, his is the voice I hear in my head when I read Batman comics to this day. He was a great Bruce Wayne and a great Batman, and managed to make them sound different in a completely natural way. What a loss.

And only 66, too. This sucks!

I heard Conroy was inspired by Hamlet when he played that role, which is a unique approach to the character that made him seem so much more complex than previous cartoon Batmans.

This is comparable to losing Mel Blanc for Looney Toons, or Lorenzo Music as Garfield. He wasn’t the first Batman by any means, but Kevin Conroy‘s performance as Batman made him as linked to the role as if he was.

Doubt I'll like the writing and performance of Batman more than this one. Some've been close but never hit that mix of vocal delivery and soulful depth of character. May he rest in peace and his family find solace.

Anyone have a copy of this on a more stable video host?
Beautiful.

Also worth mentioned when he got to play the Phantom Stranger on the Brave and the Bold where he and the Spectre watch to see if Batman confronting his father's killer will tip him from hero of justice (as is the Stranger's want) to lethal avenger of evil (as is the Spectre's want). It's a surprisingly dark episode of what is a generally silly, fun show. Oh, and the Spectre was Mark Hamill, because who can resist that pairing. Oh and Adam West and Julie Newmar played Thomas and Martha Wayne because the episode also has time travel.

It's an excellent episode and a great retelling of one of the best Silver Age Batman stories.

God the Brave and the Bold was so good.

Tears welled up while watching Perchance to Dream. Even when the Batman episode wasn't particularly good, Kevin Conroy gave it his all, and Perchance to Dream was one of the better ones.

It's his favourite episode
