RIP Alex Trebek

This sucks. I grew up watching Jeopardy with my grandfather as a kid, and my lifelong dream has been to be on there as a contestant. I don’t know if the show will go on without him (or even how it could), but if I ever did it, it just wouldn’t be the same without the man I’ve seen on TV more than anyone else in my lifetime.

Here’s a clip of a recent winner talking about how he learned English watching Jeopardy. A testament to the impact he had all these years.

Damn, man. Alex Trebek wasn't just the host of Jeopardy!, he was Jeopardy!. He will definitely be missed.

Also wow he passed not so long after Sean Connery. Huh.

If it happened yesterday, SNL woulda sent Beagle Boys-sized sacks of cash to Will Ferrell and Darrell Hammond’s doorsteps just to do one last Celebrity Jeopardy.

Never heard a bad word spoken about Alex Trebek by anyone. Seemed like a genuinely good man, who will be missed.

One of the few things my Dad and I could bond over was Jeopardy! Alex Trebek has always been a part of my life. What a loss. May his family find peace in his absence.

Jeopardy is a family ritual. Every night we would watch it together, plan dinner around when it was on so we didn't miss it. I still watch every night on my own. It's one of the major goals of my life to go on some day and I'm heartbroken now that I'll never get to meet Alex. He was an incredible host: charming, kind, but still without enough wit to send a jab at the contestants every now and then (especially when they whiffed on Canadian questions). This isn't surprising, but it's saddening nonetheless.

...damn it, of all the things that have happened this year I have not succumbed to the childish pastime of blaming them on an anthropomorphic time span.

Well, not anymore. Curse you, 2020!

Living over a year after a Stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis is amazing. I'm glad he was able to have that time but he will be missed.

Man had a good, long life, bringing joy and making the world a genuinely better place. I despise gameshows, but Jeopardy was in a class of its own. A gameshow that relied on skill and knowledge, versus just pitting garbage people against each other under flimsy context for our perverse amusement. You'll be missed, Trebek. And I'm just glad he made it long enough to see Agent Orange booted from office.

It's very sad that he didn't know his last episode would be his last. He had a statement prepared and everything.

Could still happen, though I'd hope that it wouldn't require huge sacks on Ferrell and Hammond's parts.

Alex was literally the perfect man for the job. A consummate professional that somehow always knew EXACTLY when to throw in a bit of snark.

Rest in peace.

I have never seen this clip and I love it (especially that it ends with Vikings trivia).
