#64: Got this in 220 guesses. Pretty rough day.
No, this is a rough day:
64today's answer33525.67%
63lutheranism2272.73%
62ed sullivan32747.09%

(The worst I've done of all the days I have played. I got hung up on this being some kind of chemical or industrial item. And I ran into the same issue that Paul did.)

I vaguely remember that there's a term for wine used in religious ceremonies but can't think of it.
I think the term you're looking for is sacramental. (Which does not mean that it's from Sacramento.)

24 today. Lot of luck involved: I saw something with something in it in the opening paragraph and pursued that for a while, then for some reason I guessed rose, which got me a lot of rosé results, from which guessing wine was pretty obvious, and from there I guessed the obvious follow-up: fortified. Only a few more guesses after that to reach the actual answer.

Hey just a heads-up today's is gonna be a fuckin' doozy.
208 guesses, 62.98%
I started keying into the right general area of the concept around the mid-70s, and then spent 130 guesses getting decent hits here and there, but at 200 I went ahead and did some research into more specific terms. Good thing I did, because I would never have gotten this one on my own, even though I had a pretty good idea of the general category.

really lucked out on this one
  • You solved it in 42 guesses
  • Your accuracy was 80.95%
guessed some geographical things, got to south asia and india within 15 guesses, then immediately guessed into hindu at 17. figured it was a deity for about 25 guesses, then started with more generic words, where "traditions" got me to figure out it was a denomination at 40. I'm gonna blame this success on being on the back end of an smtv playthrough

Hey just a heads-up today's is gonna be a fuckin' doozy.
Paul is right.

"181 guesses, your accuracy was 48.07%"

Around guess 160 or so I had a rough idea of the category but had to start looking things up since I had exhausted my knowledge.

I'm not at my computer but I think I guessed around 110 or so. I was dancing around various Hindu-related things, but this was a real gap in my knowledge so I had to do some Wikipedia cheating. I'd never heard of the answer before.

This is driving me nuts. I know it's from Sanskrit, it's something related to the Hindu religion, Buddhism is a subheader, Diwali is a subheader, gita is a subheader and puja shows up a lot. I've tried several festivals and deity names, some have shown up some haven't.There's also an animal sacrifice section which is really throwing me off.

Might take a break and return.

Edit: Took another look, realized I'd uncovered a ton but likely just didn't know it. Did some digging from the tridevi wikipedia page and found the answer, wasn't familiar with it before now. Interesting.

328 guesses (big oof). Decided to start doing research sometime after guess 300, and yeah I know I wouldn't have gotten this on my own.

I knew this article pertained to something more female than male pretty early on, but it took me a while to narrow down the subject to religion, and then a bit longer to narrow it down to Hinduism in particular. Unfortunately for me, that subject is one I am relatively uneducated in (apologies to shivam)

It's been a long time since my college humanities courses, but even with those I wouldn't have gotten to the answer without actually jumping around Wikipedia. Found religion fairly early, but it was pretty far down and didn't have a ton of hits. Around 100 I stumbled on Hindu, and then I started naming all of the Hindu deities I could think of, and felt more lost than ever. "Denomination" (and wikipedia itself) got me there at 164 guesses -- I let myself use google when I hit 150.

I guess what it means is that I should probably know more about non-Abrahamic religions.

BUT, that's one of the reasons I really love this game. It exposes gaps in my knowledge, and quite often I end up learning something.

136 for me. I hit on India and Hindu in the 50s, figured out before long it was something to do with Hindu goddesses, but aside from guessing a few names I had no real way to progress from there so I wound up skimming through the Wikipedia article on Hinduism to get it. Would never have gotten it otherwise.

27 today. Rock is one of my stable of starting guesses so I had that as of guess 10. Then it was just figuring out what exactly it was asking for.

I didn't get that guess until 55 in. If I had it earlier I would have had it solved almost immediately. Took me 57 guesses at 63.16%.

How good has that guess been in previous ones for you? I wouldn't think it would come up very often.

I have a rough flow chart in my head of guesses and haven't needed to go down this branch much, but it's helped before. I'll use stone instead if I think it might be about buildings or structures. But I had the sense today's was geology related from my previous guesses of water and energy.

#64: 199 guesses

That felt a bit embarrassing.

Relatively early on I got the impression that the article was related to material science, and while that wasn't wrong, per se, I was confused because I wasn't getting hits that I thought would be related to the subject. It was until guess #156 where I guessed "pressure" that I realized that the subject was more specifically geological in nature. Shortly after that I ended up getting the second word in the title, and then wasted about 40 guesses before giving up and asking my wife for what she thought the full answer was.

55 guesses, but I didn't get to rock until 47. Pressure at 37 was a big help, I was floundering for a bit before then.

192 for me. I got rock at 184, until that point I had basically no idea. Best hit before that was surface, which wasn’t much help. In the end I had to look up types of rock, which maybe would have come to me had I given it more time.

I scored a perfect 2/2, 100.00% on today's Redactle (#67, 2022-10-12).
Opening sentence:
In {field-8-7}, an {title-10-8} or {alt-name-11-8} is a {9} {8} {4} is {3} {8} of {5} {9}.

There's a strange mangled table with "Up" and "Down" visible near the top of the article. A paragraph shortly afterwards ends with "... of up {6} and down {6}." That {6} looks to be "quarks". There's also a sentence earlier in that paragraph that could be inferred to be about the composition of neutrons and protons in terms of up and down quarks. This means that the table is a list of fundamental particles and their symbols. (The first column being Up and Down, Charm and Strange, Top and Bottom.)
There's a section header just past the halfway point that can be inferred to say "Beyond the {Standard} {Model}".

So the field we're working in is "particle physics". The trickier part for me was remembering what the first word of the title was. 'fundamental' was in my mind (see notes above), but that's the alternative name. I was a little stuck on words beginning with "un-" and "in-" until I needed to go grocery shopping. And the word came to me right as I arrived. It was... well, you know.

Previous Redactle Roundup
Saturday's Redactle (#66, 2022-06-11) - metamorphic rock - 13/16, 81.25%:
Based on the large number of {11} {5} patterns at the start of paragraphs throughout the article, the subject seems to be something with a common plural form.
Beyond the opening sentence, I saw
{title-plural?-11-5} {make?} up a {major|large?} {part?} of the ...
at the start of the second paragraph, and
{title-plural?-11-5} {are?} {one?} of the {5} {5} {9} of {3} {4} {5}, ...
about a third down the page, among other examples. But I didn't feel like that was enough for me to go for a wild guess on the title.

I spent my first few guesses on the assumed words on the sentences I quoted above. After getting no hits for 'grow' on guess 10, I pitched in 'rock' for guess 14, which was a breakthrough hit. I immediately tried 'sedimentary' since I originally miscounted the number of letters in 'metamorphic' and thought that the former type was the only possibility. I re-read the first sentence of the article and thought that the {14} might be 'transformation', which made me realize where I went wrong. (As it turns out, after reading the un-redacted article, that was really the only possibility left, considering there are only three major types of rock and 'igneous' is way too short in length.)

Friday's Redactle (#65, 2022-06-10) - Shaktism - solved with internet assistance at 128 guesses:
It's really heartening to see that I wasn't the only one who struggled on this one. I needed the internet to even learn about the article name.

I got confused around guess 20 when I revealed "two-dimensional" and "{three?}-dimensional" and thought the article might be mathematical or technical in nature. I got even more confused when, around guess 41 when I finally fill in "third", which leads me to "day", which revealed the phrase "during the three-day-{4}". So there are some abstract parts to the article topic, and some ceremonial or physical parts to it as well?

I got a few minor hits around guess 80 with 'religion', 'book', and 'scripture', but I also found single hits for 'Egyptian' and 'Greek' I only got back on track when I tried out "influence" on guess 115, which led me into "{6} temples are found all over South Asia." I was thinking about the completely wrong side of the world. But what do I know about Asian religions? Ten guesses later, I end up with
{title-8} ... is one of several major Hindu {13},...
for the opening sentence, and I decide I don't know enough about Hinduism to finish the Redactle on my own. That turns out to be right, I've never heard of 'Shaktism' before. Completed in 128, but with all kinds of internet help on the last step.

#67: 119 guesses

I guessed the second word in the title on guess 67, but I had trouble getting the answer because I thought the article was about a specific particle, and not a category of particles. In retrospect, I really should have been able to get the answer sooner.

14, I've always liked this stuff so came to me easily. Energy (9) is in my stable of guesses so that got me in the right direction as well as the weirdly formatted stuff throughout. Other high-hit words were physics (18) and quantum (10).

@Lumber Baron is currently working on this and appears to be going down a rabbit hole, having guessed quantum, superposition and other stuff like those. I assume this is a common term non-science people know but am suddenly unsure if most people know it...

As a non-science person, I got this one in 63 guesses but I had to do some wiki-cheating. It was not a term I knew. I got particle at 32 and string theory at 50, but beyond that I was kind of at sea.

40 guesses, 47.50% accuracy.

today I had a lot of things I thought "Wait, didn't I guess that?" only to realize that no, I thought about it but didn't guess it. If I had guessed it, I possibly would have gotten there sooner (or been led astray).

I felt pretty sure from the start that it was some form of entertainment, but all my guesses down that road were misses and I didn't have much inspiration, so I kept going back to the well of common words to flesh out the article's basic grammar. There were surprisingly few hits for a lot of them, but one innocuous word gave it away entirely: I was doing some/many/all/more/most etc. I clicked through the words to see where they'd shown up, and "all" took me to "All in the (redacted)." I looked it at bemused for about 3 seconds, then typed in the title answer right off the bat, never having guessed any big-hint words like television, radio, comedy, or show.

I was pretty sure it was some kind of entertainment thing but so help me, I could not come up with the word television until 87 guesses in. Finished at 91 like a chump.

Took me 179 guesses today, and I didn't even guess the general subject of "television" until guess #98. I could not for the life of me think of the article's name until I uncovered "comedy" on guess #173. In retrospect, this should have been a lot easier.

Violentvixen

(She/Her)
Whoof I took a while with this one, 179.

Was really lost (especially with the "by country" section which I uncovered at guess 7) until I hopelessly guessed television (20) at 161. It surprised me that got hits since I'd already guessed media which had zero. I guessed comedy (21) at 171 and narrowed it from there.
