Richard Donner, one of the great director of major popcorn films has died. No details yet. He was 91.

Richard Donner made some of the big movies of my youth. For many it was Superman but while I love that movie, I didn't come into until later. No, for me it was The Goonies, Maverick and Conspiracy Theory. It is a shame all have aged poorly for different reasons and different capacities and I will admit I probably liked at least one of them more than what is deserved but he new how to spin a really fun yarn. In addition, he wrote some pretty decent episodes of Tales from the Crypt (a show I love despite being VERY hit and miss) and Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, an all time classic Twilight Zone episode.

I don't think he made any great movies but he made a lot of iconic ones.

It would not be an exaggeration to say I owe my existence to Richard Donner in part, so rip to a real one.

Superman is still in my absolute top 3 Superhero movies. I never did get around to watching Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (I don't think, anyway).

Jeff Cohen, an entertainment lawyer who once played Chunk in the Goonies, says that director Richard Donner paid for his college tuition. The former actor told Variety about the late director's generosity in a tribute to Donner, who died Monday.
