Pumpkin Jack: A PS2 Trick or Treat

It's out tomorrow, and while I'm going to wait until I finish Resident Evil to play this, I'll be buying it Day One. It's basically a Halloweeny PS2 style action game with what looks like a more forgiving version of Souls combat. The bosses look great, too. Who else will be giving this a shot for Spooktober?

I couldn't wait, so I booted it up. After 15 minutes it's already really fun. It's fluid and forgiving, with the kind of Halloween atmosphere you'd expect from such a title: spooky but not scary. Combat is nice, platforming is intuitive. Oh, and you can have the control scheme reflect either XBox or Playstation layout, at least on PC.

I'm not ready to say that this game may be to the 32/64 bit era what Shovel Knight was to the 8 bit era, but I'm also not ready to not say it.

Okay, the second boss is much more interesting. I've got a couple of quibbles so far, but overall its still really engaging.
