We are on the other side of the worst year and, yeah, things are still rough, but I have hopes that things will get better. For example BRAND NEW POPULARITY CONTEST CHOICES. We have six people who gave us six choices and all of them look like different kinds of cool. Here are your choices!

Top 50 32 & 64-Bit Video Games - Issun
Top 50 Cartoon Characters - Johnny Unusual
Top 50 Fictional Romantic Relationships - Positronic Brain
Top 50 Fictional Vehicles - Zef
Top 50 Plants - Kirin
Top 50 Rock Bands - Nich

Here are also some general rules:

1) The vote will go on for four days and (assuming I didn't make any mistakes) you can vote for two topics and can change your votes at any time.
2) If you vote for something PLEASE do so with the intent of participating. I certainly relate to voting for a topic you think is neat but don't feel you could contribute much too. And its fine if you vote and maybe find later you don't have the time. But if you vote for one you might not want to actually contribute to, you might not be alone. We want the winner to have as many contributors as possible, thus making it more fun.
3) Please do not crap on anyone's choices or submissions. Its cool to talk about your preferences and even try to convince people why one choice is good but please don't mock other choices or try to hector people into voting for a specific choice. It just makes a fun thing less fun. However, if you have legitimate concerns about a specific topic, perhaps for reasons someone didn't consider, like sensitivity reasons or a possible problematic nature, don't hesitate.

I think that's it. I hope I'm not forgetting anything.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free do discuss them below.

@Johnny Unusual - how many votes are we allowed? I thought you had limited the total number of votes a person could make the last time we voted on topics in TT 3.0.

Then you might have made a mistake or I might have made one. The poll did allow me to select more than two choices but I didn't check whether it allowed me to save more than two choices.

No, if you try for more than two it stops you and says the limit is two. You can try if you want (since changing votes is also an option on here)

It doesn't stop you until you click the cast vote button - you can still select more than two before clicking that.

I couldn't remember if there was interest there. Remind me next cycle, and I'll resubmit it.

What a good batch of topics. I want to vote for, like, all of them.

Very much agree. I hope people who don't win try them again. Also, I hope Mogri comes back to try Office Supplies again.
Makes me wonder if there is some value in doing something after the poll closes to gauge interest in the topics that did not win the current chance to be the next Top 50.

Well, if it helps, I'm very likely to run Office Supplies in the next poll after this round of feedback.

Issun and I have decided, mostly on the basis of my work schedule, that I'll be going first. Look forward to the nominations thread for Top 50 Rock Bands going up whenever Adrenaline hits #10!

By the way, if any previous contest organizers have tips for collecting and tabulating the votes, I'm all ears.

I know I copied a Google form with lots of helpful tabulating formulas in it from some previous list runner... I want to say it may have been Issun here but I could be totally mis-remembering who originally made it. If we can't find the original I might be able to dig up one of the copies I used and scrub the old data out of it...

I was sure I had the original but now I cannot find it - not the one with the 35 point system. I do have one with 25, so I can adjust it tomorrow (or scrub a 35 point version) and send it to you, Nich (unless somebody else was thoughtful enough to save a blank 35 point sheet)

@Nich (and everyone who needs it) - here's my master template. It's a Google Sheet doc: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TOuw63H0vFEunkg5LnRj5LlgRbWDqIfzu3ITvz1qIhU/edit?usp=sharing - feel free to make a copy.

It's simple enough to use: in the Form Responses tab write your picks in the columns, then click to the Calculator tab so the sheet refreshes the vote. Then you can switch to the Result tab and sort the results by clicking the arrow next to the title in each column (because of the way this tabulates it won't refresh the Result tab automatically after calculation, so sorting is needed).

It works by counting how many times in which column a given entry appears, so it's important that all entries are written the same way ("Snake Man" is not the same as "SnakeMan" and count as two different votes for two different entries) but it is case insensitive (so "Snake man" and "Snake Man" count as two votes for the same entry).
