PolyglotDome: Music from Everywhere

Kirin

Summon for hire
(he/him)
And now it's time for a bunch of music with lyrics you may or may not understand! You all gifted me with 64 tracks full of non-English words, so no byes are needed and we can dive right in to Round 1. Tournament bracket is here. Votes will be accepted for approximately 24 hours; I'll probably usually be posting in mid-morning; posts may or may not go up on weekends depending on my schedule allowing.

First up, we have @Paul le Fou chasing 99 Luftballons with Nena in German, while @Torzelbaum just wants to Get Along with Hayashibara Megumi and Okui Masami in (mostly) Japanese

GEGEN / 対

Next on the docket, @Exposition Owl finds some Fibre de Verre with Paris Combo in French, while @Ixo takes a trip to Berlin with Tequillajazzz in Russian

To provide a little exposition, here are the original French lyrics of « Fibre de verre »:
Fibre de verre, je ne sais vibrer
Qu'en paratonnerre, je suis condamnée
À l'éclair, la foudre éphémère
Car si l'on m'aime
L'on doit me consumer

Car pour me plaire
L'on doit me consumer

Mais demain, oui, demain
J'en fait le serment
J'ouvrirai les yeux, mes deux yeux
Tout en grand
Sur toi, en somme
Mon bel amant
Toi qui assis, m'attend
Tout en m'aimant

Fibre de verre, je me suis allumée
Sans un éclair
Sans même un brasier
Juste une lueur
En mon intérieur
Ta chaleur
A su trouver mon cœur
Mais demain, oui, demain
Demain, oui, demain
Oh mais demain
Mmh mais demain
Et après, après-demain
Et après, après, après, après, après, après-demain
Oh oh
Ouh ouh ouh

And here's an English translation. I've tried to give a sense of some of the wordplay in the song:
Fiberglass, I don't know how to vibrate*
Except as a lightning rod; I am condemned
To the lightning bolt, the ephemeral lightning
Because if someone loves me
They have to consume me

But tomorrow, yes, tomorrow
I swear it
I'll open my eyes
Both my eyes, wide,
On a beautiful man
A beautiful lover
Who will spare my life
Just by loving me

Fiberglass, I have broken
My nose, my teeth, on so many things*
Too loving of heart
Too spicy of habits
Because in order to please me
Someone has to consume me

But tomorrow, yes, tomorrow
I swear it
I'll open my eyes
Both my eyes, wide,
On you, in short,
My beautiful lover,
You who sit waiting
Just loving me

Fiberglass, I have caught fire***
Without a bolt of lightning
Without even a burning coal
Just a glimmer
On the inside
Your heat
Knew how to find my heart
But tomorrow, tomorrow ...
And the day after ... and the day after that ...

*« Vibrer », which literally means "to vibrate," also has an idiomatic meaning of "to feel something deeply." It's almost like the idiomatic use of "to be shaken," but it can refer to positive feelings, too.
**« Affaires » in this phrase would usually just mean "things" or "stuff," but in the context of the whole verse you could also read it as « affaires de cœur », "love affairs."
***In addition to "catch fire," « allumer » can also mean "turn on" in both senses of the phrase.

Anyhow. 99 Ballons en verre.

Neun-und-neunzig Luftballons

The second one was really hard, but I think I have to go with Berlin

That first match ended up a pair of bangers right out of the gate, dang.

Oh wow. We're really just going right ahead and frontloading this with the top 2 songs in my most-played MP3s from the 90s huh? I can only possibly fairly resolve this by remembering we were encouraged not to just load up on J-Pop for this so...

99 Luftballons wins in a blowout, while Fibre de Verre squeaks by with the narrowest possible margin.

Today sees @Johnny Unusual dancing with Die Roboter and Kraftwerk in German, while I play the Song of Mana by Yoko Shimomura in Swedish.

And then we have @Purple dancing some Wild Dances with Ruslana in Ukranian, but @pudik is busy planting Seeds on the Ground with Cold Fairyland in Mandarin.

Johnny's video is showing as unavailable for me despite being an official upload from the band, weird. Region issue maybe. I'll leave it up in case it plays for others, but here's what I think is another copy of the same version of the song:

Song of Dances.

I'm a bit loath to vote for any game/anime songs, but also Song of Mana is one of my favorites ever and I was surprised to find out that I really disliked the Robot song.

Meanwhile, Wild Dances was my jam despite strong competition.

Wild Dances moves on but Roboter vs Mana is currently TIED, until someone gives me a tiebreaker.

Meanwhile in our next matches, @Falselogic is planning a Golpe de Estado with Immortal Technique in Spanish, while @Lumber Baron is content to just Sparkle with Tatsuro Yamashita in Japanese

And at the same time, also in Japanese, @WildcatJF wants to Ride on Shooting Star with the pillows, but @lincolnic decides it's time for I, Zimbra with the Talking Heads in... uh, some random syllables basically.
