Sword and Shield came out late last year. Earlier this summer, in lieu of a "third version" or sequel, the Isle of Armor DLC was added; in the fall, we expect the Crown Tundra DLC.

So there are some events going on right now. If you get your hands on some codes from preordering a movie ticket in Japan, you can get a Zarude and a shiny Celebi. Don't ask me where to get such a code.

The code PJCS2019CHAMP will get you a Gastrodon copied from some tournament winner's team. Act fast, because this one will expire very soon.

Get yourself a free Porygon2 (with an Eviolite!) with the code PKMNPLAYERSCUP until August 31. Note that Porygon2 is banned in the next season of ranked multiplayer, where the gimmick is they banned the sixteen most-used pokemon from the previous season.

Ooh, maybe I won't have to fuck with Dracovish and shit for a bit if they're banning overused guys.

This is the banlist:
  • Venusaur
  • Gyarados
  • Porygon2
  • Tyranitar
  • Torkoal
  • Hippowdon
  • Magnezone
  • Togekiss
  • Excadrill
  • Whimsicott
  • Incineroar
  • Mimikyu
  • Rillaboom
  • Cinderace
  • Indeedee
  • Dragapult

I am both sad that so many of my favorites are getting banned (Mimikyu, Whimsicott, Porygon2) and proud of them for being good enough to be banned in the first place.

I really need to get back into VGC. My #1 favorite Pokémon Marowak is viable right now and that probably won’t be the case when the restricted mons come to town.

With the mystery gift code K2020CHAMP10NS you can get... a King's Rock, if you redeem by Sunday morning.

Not much actually new was shown this morning. Crown Tundra will release October 22, and between now and then they'll be releasing mystery gift codes for the hat-wearing Pikachus, starting with the first: P1KACHUGET.

Pokemon Go connectivity into Pokemon Home is forthcoming, and anyone who connects the two gets a Gigantamax Melmetal for apparently free.

After the world-destroying villainous plots of Gens 4~7, it was nice to scale down the "plot" of Sw&Sh to just the tournament itself and a last-second scuffle between dippy dawgs and Yami from Okami a handsy snake.

But now I see the archnemesis of Arceus has finally risen from the darkest pits to end the Pokemon universe:

It should be noted that the October 22 date is only for the release of Crown Tundra - the Pokemon Go connectivity is just slated for sometime this year.

You can expect the subsequent Pikachu hats to land on October 2, 9, 16, 18, 23, and 30.

At least a couple of the Pikachu hats are coming to Go during OCtober events as well... I wonder if they'll be transferable to Home.

I'm a little concerned that transferring to Home seems that it may use pokécoin. I'm already paying real money for Home, thanks.

Yeah, I just saw that rumor and it's a huge bummer if so. I mean, on the one hand, I *was* wondering how they felt about the inevitable flooding of SwSh with rare shinies and legendaries from GO, but... semi-paywalling it is not a very nice "solution".

The code 1CH00SEY0U will get you another one of the hat-have Pikachu.

It seems that statements on go/home integration have been clarified to make it sound like there will be a "cool-down" time for transferring in Pokemon, and coins will allow you to bypass that restriction. This makes a certain amount of sense, as it will at least prevent the flooding of transferring every damn shiny into home instantly, and can balance the fact that paying for storage in Pokemon Go has obviously been a revenue stream for the app from the beginning. Additionally, while I hate to see it, having to wait to transfer pokemon between generations has been a tradition in the series going back to... Black and White? Which one had that ridiculous shooting game mechanic that you could only do once a day...

Gotta be honest, I enjoy the fun that the 1337speak-fluent intern assigned to creating the Hatchus is having.

Several letters, including I, O, and S, simply can't be used in mystery gift codes because they'd be ambiguous with the numbers 1, 0, and 5.

Crown Tundra launched last night! I really like it so far. All this legendary hunting makes for a lot of fun activity.

Also, there's a new hat Pikachu code: ULTRAP1KA

For the newly available legendaries, data miners say that the following are shiny-locked (i.e. cannot be shiny):
  • Articuno
  • Zapdos
  • Moltres
  • Calyrex
  • Glastrier
  • Spectrier
  • Cosmog
  • Poipole
  • Keldeo
  • Victini (but I don't think people have even figured out how to encounter that one yet)

Whereas all others, including everything from Dynamax Adventures, can be shiny at normal rates.

Dynamax Adventures are great! Straight-up Pokémon rogue lite with random mons, which I’ve been wanting these games to try for a while. And you can queue up like a normal video game instead of wrestling with stamps.

Whoa whoa whoa, hold the phone, there are catchable Mythicals now? As in, they’re just there, in the game? Oh man I hope this means we see some in VGC.

I'm on the exact opposite end. I detest having to join up with randos to do Max Lairs, and I hate even more having to match up with AI-controlled companions who always pick the worst possible choices, so Dynamax Adventures has effectively and decisively ended my interest in PokeSwSh as a whole :/ I can't even muster the interest to do the plot or capture any new critters, since my first seven attempts at capturing Suicune went so badly. And worse, I'm immediately punished by the game if I quit out of an AI-companion raid once I realize we're not even going to reach the final boss, especially since there's zero reward for sticking it out until the inevitable conclusion and I value my time more than anything.

Lady, these are randomly generated teammates. If you don't want me to quit mid-adventure and "make them feel bad", then maybe don't have them cast useless skills and maybe don't one-shot two or three them before the third stage? Or, I dunno, let me heal during battle?

But yeah, to say that DAs have soured me on the Crown Tundra experience, however great the rest of it is, would be an understatement. And it's a shame, because I spent a solid 240 hours in the base game + Isle of Armor and I was only annoyed for 1 or 2 of them whenever I ran up against a one-shotting Dynamax Gengar.
