Over or Under. That's Just Like Your Opinion, Man.

It's a simple enough game. I name a person, place, concept, thing and you reply with whether it is overrated, underrated, or just about right. Feel free to elaborate on why you feel that is the case and then we can have a friendly discussion about why before moving on to the next one.

This is not a forum for getting angry at other people for their opinions.

First off: Avocados - Over or Under?

Over but in the sense of over portioned. I have always found that a little bit of it is all that I need but nobody seems to ever only use a little bit of it.

Over, in that it's usually positioned as a healthy alternative, and I prefer my healthy alternatives to be less caloric.

I don't know about over- or underrated (I won't derail the thread, but this has just never been a meaningful concept to me), but I like avocados a lot. They have a bright, savory, creamy quality that makes so many dishes better.

I know I'm the only person on the planet who feels this way, but avocados are overrated as hell. It's just green mush that doesn't taste like anything.

I might’ve once said under, but now that every hip place has avocado toast on the menu they’ve probably risen to about right. (Toast isn’t really my favorite method of eating them, but it got them into The Discourse.)

Haven't eaten them that much, so I can't say whether they are over/underRATED, but I'd definitely say they are overEXPOSED, as people won't stop talking about them one way or another.

It all depends on how fresh they are. Given how often they are served overripe and under-seasoned, I'd say they are underrated overall.

Avocados are still underrated, I think. They're so good with so many things and a nice alternative for so many things.

I'd call them just about right. Basically everybody likes avocados these days, and even then a lot of people who don't will still like guacamole.

Over rated. Avocados are great, don't get me wrong, love 'em to death, but they're just overdone at this point. Come on, fruit! Step it up and let's see something new!

Alright, next up?

Facebook - Over or under? (If you don't happen to use FB but you do use a different social media site feel free to rate that one.)

I mean, everyone I know thinks it's a trash site run by a trash human that's only used reluctantly to keep in touch with relatives and see what babies your high school friends are making, so I'd say it's just about right.

my opinion on all social media is rock bottom right now, but I don't know if I could say if its over or under rated

Yeah, thirding what JBear said.

I haven’t used FB in like a decade, but I’ve also fallen mostly off other social media over the last few years. I regret knowing a lot less about what my friends are up to, but all the sites are bad. And people mostly agree they’re bad but feel like they have to use them to keep in the loop.

Looks like TT is pretty much in agreement when it comes to Facebook.

Next up: Road Trips. Chance to get out and enjoy the open road or hellscape of boredom being trapped in a tiny metal box for hours. Or just right?

Tell us!

Too many variables. Depends primarily on the company, secondarily on the scenery, can be awesome or awful. So I guess I’m going, ah, middle of the road by default.

Underrated. I love travelling, I love hitting up a random roadside hole in the wall/restaurant, and I love getting lost with my friends. I used to make the ~14-hour drive to/from Toronto twice a year or so (once out and once back) for several years, and I routinely make the ~4-hour drive up to the north of the province, since that's where Johnny's family has their cottage and, more recently, where my SO's family lives. I also love road trip games! (I used to put my 5-CD anime OP/ED collection on the changer on my car radio and play "guess the show", and Johnny has an identify the movie game where he reads the cast of a movie starting from the most obscure actors to the least.) Also, in COVID times especially, it's an appealing way to travel.

Under. Now, there are definite problems in the same way that so many things are problems: gas is expensive. But to be able to simply explore a landscape and spend time with friends. Plus, perfect for movie drama.
