Outer Wilds [SPOILERS] - Flung Into Space Repeatedly w/ A Couple of Wooden Sticks

I wasn't, but I tried it today and it did help!

I did a fair bit more exploring today, but I still don't really feel like I'm doing anything. Is that just how the game works?

The currency in the game is 100% information. That and finding cool new locations and environments are the carrot that keeps you going, which can take some adjusting. I found that filling out the rumor map was a useful progress bar.

Did some exploring on Brittle Hollow. I fell into the Black hole, it dumped me out into space which was frustrating. I tried to fly to a planet but there wasn't any really close. That's when I noticed the White hole and a platform by it! This must be the White Hole Station, I read about somewhere! The planetary transporters that I've found on a couple of planets are explained here. I think I was able to activate them? I mean I did so enough that I was able to return to the Brittle. I'll have to explore the other planets at some point... Oh, wait no. That won't work will it? Nothing I do stays, hrm... I dont know how helpful the transporters are if I have to go to Brittle then the White Hole Station to activate them. There was an ash twin fragment there but I don't see how I can use it to change where I warp to... I'll have to play around with that more.

Found Rieback back on Brittle. Then tried to start exploring the Hanging City! There's something called the Quantum Tower but it will have to wait. I started with the school district. There's a lot of the ghost matter around here and lots of areas seem blocked off. Just some info on festivals and physics... Made my way back up to the Water District and found some more scrolls and some info on stuff at the twins (the project there the anglerfish, I've already seen some of these. I was on my way up to the third floor when I noticed that the planet seems to be falling into the white hole. and then shortly thereafter the sun blew up! Brittle, by far, seems to have the most going on with it. Will be returning here again and probably again for quite a few runs.

Okay! I think I've got as much of the Hanging City as I can right now. The first Settlement is also done. I spent the next three or so cycles trying to get into the Southern Observatory. Finally figured it out! The Eye of the Universe seems like the McGuffin I need to beat this game. It also seems like it is not easy to get to.

Also discovered that the third escape pod (I've found two of them) never made it off the Bramble planet. I think I might try to go there next and see if I can find it. Or I could go to the two twins and try and figure out the warp pads. They're telling me a lot of things about them (receivers, alignment, etc) but I haven't got them working yet besides that one time... I still can't figure out how to get into the Quantum tower. I could try Giant's Deep as well. Some sort of cannon was constructed there and I saw the models of the cyclones.

So many choices!

I DIED?!

Also, I know so much more now than I did before! I ended up going to Giant's Deep! So much there! The probe construction yard, the inner core of the planet. Taking one of the Jellyfish into the core! It took me a couple of times to figure that out! You got to get into them first! Found the island inside the big cyclone and learned about quantum stuff.

Spent some more time on the Ember Twin in the Sunless City. Figured out the bit about becoming entangled with quantum stuff. I have a vague idea now about how to get to the Quantum Moon and that I can use it to take me somewhere but I dont have it quite figured out yet.

I also figured out how transporting works! I thought that I could step on anyone I want to but that itsn't how it works. It only works from Ash Twin!

I made it onto and into the Interloper. I died a bunch in there. Finally made it to the inside and figured out why the Sun blows up when the Interloper hits it!

I found myself into the center of the Twin Project, and read everything that was there. Much of it I already knew. But They have a core here! I took it out. And then the cycle ended and it gave me a game over! I thought that might happen but wanted to confirm.

I think I need to figure out how to get into the Black Forge now and the Quantum Tower. Hopefully I'll find some final answers there.

Now that the cat is out of the bag as to what it is: the Quantum Moon was literally the second planetoid I landed on after Giant's Deep. My friend contends that I played this game very backwards. 😝

I mean, I hesitate to be too specific because I'm not sure what all you've seen and what you haven't, but there is a place on Giant's Deep that gave me sufficient information to land on it.

ETA: Mostly, though, I just noticed it really early on and then became obsessed with getting there... and then after that, teasing out the mysteries that I found there became my primary goal for much of the game.

So Giant's Deep must have been your first planet.

Well, I must have enough info then. I just need to dig through it.

I mean, slightly more spoilery push: Did you find, on Giant's Deep, a building devoted to information about quantum mechanics? Because if not, then you missed some stuff.

ETA: Er, nm, I just read your post more closely. Yeah, you should have all that you need.

Oh yeah! In the big Cyclone. I did that. If that's all there is to it then I shouldn't have any trouble getting there then!

Actually progressing on the Quantum Moon requires more information, but yes, that's enough to at least land there.

Oh, I don't plan on it yet. I think I know how to get to the Black Hole Forge now and will be doing that. I also have an idea about the Quantum Tower on Brittle as well. Going to explore those two options first.

And I still haven't even tried to get to Bramble yet. Though I have some real fears about doing that after reading all the comments about the Anglerfish on Ember. I don't know why they'd share all that information with me if I wasn't going to need it...

Okay! I got into the Black Hole forge and the Quantum Tower on Hollow. Well, the Tower wasn't really on Hollow when I was finally able to explore it! (That took me awhile to figure out...) I also managed to land on the Quantum Moon! I did it on a whim, saw it orbiting the Twins and went for it. Wasn't able to explore it much though because I jetpacked a little too much and launched myself off of it and then it disappeared...

Before I go back there though I headed to Bramble! Which is a really weird planet! And I was right, I do have to be careful moving around in there because I got eaten. Located Feldspar and will be heading back to find the last escape pod! Oh, and the Vessel! Hopefully once I locate those I'll have some indication of what my next step is supposed to be!

This has been so fun exploring this little solar system and putting the pieces together!

Oh my goodness. The Bramble!! The Bramble!! What a mess! I thought I was doing okay until I started trying to find the Vessel! So many Anglerfish! I eventually was able to make it through them. So, so slowly. I think I know what I need to do to beat the game, though it seems like a lot. I've got to take the Warp core from the Twins to the Vessel and start it up. Trying to get that all done in a single cycle seems very difficult. Especially considering every time you go into the Bramble you have to locate the Escape Pod before going to the Vessel and how slow you have to go. I'm not even trying that yet though until I figure out the Quantum Moon.

I've been able to land on it a couple times now. But, I have no idea how to get the Shrine onto the North Pole... I've tried some things but nothing seems to work...

I beat it! What a great game! What a bizarre ending! I got the Shrine on the North Pole of the moon by going to Giant's Deep first and walking right up to the edge of the Cyclone on the pole there. Then circled until the Shrine appeared, popped in and then moved the moon to Timber Hearth and then walked up to the North Pole and then did it again. That got the Shrine where I needed it.

A live alien! What a neat way to communicate! Poor person, they seem to know that something isn't right. But they showed up at the end!

So what do we think happened? My take is that the universe was dying. Whatever the eye is, knew that and then sent out its signal, so that the process can re-do itself. Which is what our protagonist, and the other astronauts did. Basically rebooted the universe so that the 'heat death; hypothesis could be avoided.

That doesn't explain the Interloper though... which I thought was the cause of the sun going supernova...

Anyway, I loved this game! These mystery solving adventure games are really my new jam. I've loved every single one of them.

Full story spoilers:

The Interloper's deal is that it's what killed the [insert alien race name that I've forgotten here]. This comet showed up, they opened Pandora's box, and suddenly all of them in the solar system were instantly killed in their homes. That's why you find ghost matter and storytelling skeletons everywhere. It represents an existential thread to the entire universe that you just kind of bypass by hitting the reset button.

As for the sun going nova, the fake-out is that it was their sun station (did you visit the sun station?) that caused it to go nova, since that's what it was *supposed* to do, but they never actually got it to work right. It failed. But every other part of their plan worked, which is why it all suddenly clicked into place and turned on when the sun went nova because it had reached the natural end of its lifespan. This was the last big twist for me (the order you discover the twists in depends on the order you investgiate), and it was a huge bummer! I thought my task in this game was to prevent whatever was causing the sun to go nova, but it turns out that the sun is just naturally blowing up because it's old as shit, and there is no way to prevent that.

At least, that was my take on everything. I could have some stuff wrong!

(he/him)
Yeah, that's also my understanding. My favourite realization was looking up in the sky and realizing that all the other stars in the universe are also exploding. And getting to the vessel and seeing that it's still receiving communications from other Nomai.
