Our inline spoiler text appearance changed

lincolnic

can stop, will stop
(he/him)
Our inline spoiler tag used to just put a black bar over the text behind it, but today I noticed that it now just makes the text big and blurry instead. Quoting a post from the Hades 2 thread to highlight:

Managed to first-try The Summit today, clearing that route before I ever managed to defeat Chronos. I had a ton of self-heal options and finished with a couple of Death Defiances still on deck, though one more hit would have peeled another off, I think.

Talking to Odysseus after was apt. I really did just exchange blows with Typhon until it fell over. I dodged around as best I could but I couldn't tell you a strategy beyond having a greater percent-of-health-bar-per-second damage output, hah.

I dunno about anyone else, but I look at this and it makes me think I need to clean my glasses. Is there an option to go back to the way it was?

This was almost certainly a side effect of some updates I made yesterday. I'll look at fixing it -- thanks for bringing it up.

OK, it's fixed now. I've changed it slightly -- if you hover, you can now faintly see the space occupied by the block of text. If people hate this, I can undo it. Won't affect mobile users.

Thank you, but I would prefer to see something there (either blurred text or black boxes) instead of empty space. I'd be confused a lot and either forget to hover over things or be hovering over everything because I can't tell if it is empty space or a spoiler.

I've made some changes. How do you feel about this treatment?

I'm honestly not seeing too much of a difference between how it was yesterday and how it is now? I'm really not a fan of the blurry style (I liked the black bars), but if I'm the only one who feels this way then I'll adapt.

After going through some other stuff I think I do prefer black bars too, to make it easier to notice spoilers. Is it possible to get that back, or do we only have the blurred option now?

The reason I didn't take away the blurring completely is that you can see the unblurred text by highlighting the block. I guess you know what you're getting into if you do that, though.

I've updated it to make the spoilered text hard-ish to read on highlight while removing the blurring entirely.

One side effect is that emoji are faintly visible through the spoiler: :poop::eek::mad:

But, like, they're not super visible, and they're not super important to spoiler. I think you'd get the same problem from other images, but it's not as though that's a major use case for inline spoilers.

Well, in fairness, they didn't make the change. The blurry thing is their out-of-the-box treatment for inline spoilers, which I overrode pretty much immediately. Then, when I did some upgrades a couple days ago, I accidentally tossed those out and had to reverse-engineer what I did last time without really remembering what it looked like.

Mumble mumble will put templates in the playbook repository mumble mumble...
