There are plenty of brawlers where you beat up corrupt cops.
Streets of Rage 4 for one
Streets of Rage 4 might be the most pro-cop game in the series. Sure, the cops lock up and pick fights with the protagonists, but that's only because the villains framed the protagonists. The game portrays the cops as otherwise fine, and in the end Adam rejoins the police force, welcomed back by that boss cop lady. And the cops beat up minor thugs if you let them.

Speaking of...SoR4 got a balance patch today.

Yep, and it really does help out Axel. Nice to see him hold his own now. (My first run was with Axel, and I was surprised at how much more powerful the others felt compared to him when I restarted things.)

Decided to replay River City Girls, since I didn't actually finish it before and forgot what I was doing, and also because it's a really good beat-em-up.

Hey, guess what... it's still a Really Good Beat-em-up, easily among the Best in Genre

I need to play that more. It's a beautiful game with an amazing soundtrack but I don't get the gameplay at all.

That kinda captures my sentiment. It's gorgeous, with a kicking soundtrack, but the gameplay was just a'ight for me.

Of course, it's always possible I'm just missing something, much like how I don't "get" the Capcom D&D games, either.

It's a really grindy game. The combat's super stiff until you've unlocked a decent set of abilities for each character, then it really opens up. The Streetcar stage is best to grind for cash.

Yeah, I remember it smoothing out once I got some new abilities. I don't care for grinding in brawlers, or at least those that don't feel awesome to play right off the bat. That's my biggest issue with Dragon's Crown, as well, in retrospect.

Yeah, there's a bit of a science to the grind, but it's worth it. (Survival horror mode helps a lot, too)

Super Punch Patrol is... fine? It has some weird quirks about it, I don't love how enemies quickly surround you, and I hate the lack of i-frames when standing up (which has led to me taking unavoidable hits from consecutive environmental hazards), but given that this seems to have been Horberg's quarantine summer project, and it's only five bucks, it's not bad. Also, you can put Anders in a giant duck suit.

But she was in the 1989 cartoon. That game was actually kind of based on the TV pilot (titled Pryde of the X-Men) for an X-Men cartoon that was never picked up.

If you want to see an Australian Wolverine (because Australia was super popular at the time), then this is your show.
Yeah, I remember hearing about that. Certainly explains why everybody looks different from the cartoon we got (later that year), as well as why Colossus and Nightcrawler were actually on the team instead of relegated to the bewildering cameo status they had in said 90s cartoon.

I'm guessing the game was already pretty much done and Marvel or whomever wasn't about to let a li'l thing like Pryde of the X-Men not getting picked up stop the arcade game and toy line from happening.

Sega's Yakuza/Streets of Rage mash-'em-up, Streets of Kamurochuro is free on Steam RIGHT NOW and I think disappearing (as in completely, not just no longer free) either tonight or at the end of the weekend? So grab it up if you want it!

A Golden Axe sequel/remake prototype from 2012 is going up tomorrow for just 24 hours as well.

Just saw "ThatBronzeGirl" stream that earlier, and now I have context for what the hell that was, thanks!

Apparently the guy who put heart and soul into programming it and wasn't told this was happening didn't find that particularly funny

That's actually how I found out about this. Still, the preservationist in me thinks it dope as hell that they released it. (Also, IT'S ONLY UP TODAY, GET IT AND MAKE SURE TO ACTUALLY DOWNLOAD IT.)

I'd love to see more alphas and betas of cancelled games if only to see why they were cancelled. The Gigaleak has been fascinating for just this reason, and still raised more questions than answers.

I'd love to see the 3 (?) cancelled Streets of Rages, for example, and the original Street Fighter V.

Ooh, neat! As soon as either a CDI version drops (or I figure out how to convert) I'll give it a go - I've set up my Dreamcast on a VGA monitor again, so I've been playing around with it a bit lately.

@ShakeWell and all others who like quality beat 'em ups: Streets of Rage Remake has apparently got a new version out, version 5.2. Grab it before Sega does!

Niiiiiiiiiiice!

In other news, Knights of Valor is a pretty mediocre brawler. It's cool that it's pretty easily accessible now, but, like... it's just fine. It's a lot of spamming specials, building up your special bar so you can use more specials, rinse, repeat.

Double Dragon Neon is heading to Switch!

I can’t link on my phone so all you can do is trust that I am not willingly deceiving you!

This is great news. Definitely one of my favorite games the year it was released. I would also tell folks that it gets better with repeated plays - the first run doesn't feel like it takes advantage of the depth that you can get with follow-up runs. The highest difficulty is pretty darn tough, though. I had to rely on Training Wheels most of the time, but I bet folks could tell me there's a better ability to run at that level.

I have an important announcement: the unlicensed (by Sega, not by Technos) Genesis port of Double Dragon is pretty bad. (But probably not as bad as the licensed Japan-only Mega Drive port of Double Dragon II.)

Uhh, guys... Is Paprium actually happening? I got a pre-order shipment email (as did MVG).

Also, Joe Redifer on Sega-16 said that he did see it (but not play it) around 5-6 months ago. So that's a point in favor of this being real. Hopefully it turned out well - development was very, very troubled.
