October 2026 New Games Thread

Violentvixen

(She/Her)
The basic idea is to list new games that you are interested in, as well as games you are potentially curious about or want to give wider attention to. You can briefly describe them or ask other people to help fill you in. The hope is that regular threads like these can act as a collective filter/discovery mechanism to help people decide what is worth checking out.

"New games" means any new title that is being released or ported this month in any capacity (not "backlogs/what you are playing this month"). The angle here is sharing your anticipation and promoting game discovery (as opposed to sharing comments about a first playthrough in progress - that belongs elsewhere).
  • If you want a handy list that covers most of the major upcoming games of the month, here are lists of upcoming games:
Here are the subscription service lists for this month:

Feel free to post other lists or list videos that you find useful.
If there is already a thread on TT about a game, please add a link to it.

Final request: If you are the first person to mention a game please provide (at minimum) a short sentence description. (If it is a very big AAA release though, then don't worry about it.) This is a good convention that makes the thread more useful as a discovery mechanism, and especially helps out anyone who doesn't follow the news as closely as you.

I'm excited for Switch Sports Resort on the 22nd, all the Wii Sports stuff was a lot of fun and this looks to go back to that style. Thread that covers Switch Sports and this is here.

I haven't been much in the mood for puzzle games recently, but I did really like the demo of Colorbound and want to share, comes out October 12th.

I expect that most of my time is going to be occupied by September's Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, but I'll squeeze some other things in. That's probably Game of the Year for me, and it's immense. The ultimate maximalist strategy game about gladiators, and an impressive example of interleaved stories.

The demo for Final Fantasy Resonance convinced me to spring for the full product. It appears to be a proper Final Fantasy game. I've tempered my expectations for the writing, since it is after all a mobage conversion, but the art and mechanics have convinced me it's the real deal. This is not a retro throwback, and it is not a budget release. Traditions are observed, but not as though to say "Remember the 90s?" Its turn-based mechanics evolved from modern designs, and the visual style is neither nostalgic nor a cost-saving measure.

I'm quite interested in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, and October is the ideal month for fighting Dracula. I never played Dead Cells, which the developer Evil Empire is most famous for, but footage I've seen of what they've done with the license is compelling. A fluid and highly mobile action-platformer with some exploration elements, and an emphasis on using the Vampire Killer to swing around.

I downloaded the demo for Dynasty Warriors 3 Remastered but I'm not altogether sure what I'm in for. Musou games that aren't based on a story I'm already familiar with haven't captured me as well, and I don't know Romance of the Three Kingdoms as well as I'd like, which is one of the reasons I ended up skipping Dynasty Warriors Origins. (That and the Too Many Games problem.)

I'm curious about Star Wars: Galactic Racer, a sci-fi racing game with a story mode and apparently also some sort of roguelike elements. I like a nice sense of meta-progression in a racing game. Something where it's worthwhile to even try, so there are goals other than just trying to avoid losing.

I’m so jazzed for Belmont’s Curse. I’m just waiting for reviews to see what the game’s performance on Switch 2 is like.

I'm getting Castlevania: Belmont's Curse without question, along with the physical of Under the Island, an indie Zelda-esque action adventure I greatly enjoyed enough to buy it twice.

I'm interested in a few things (Colorbound being one of them), but going to be holding off on buying too much else this year.

Belmont's Curse looks exciting, and I'm also planning to get the physical version of Control Resonant which comes out the same day. (Not sure if I will actually get them on the same day, but you know.)

Definitely getting Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, although I'm not sure if I'll grab it for PC or Switch 2. I'm also kind of excited for Galactic Racer, but I expect I'll wait for a sale before picking that one up.

Belmont's Curse for me. I also want Dynasty Warriors 3, but if I'm being honest I can wait and buy that on sale. Maybe.

Queen's Domain comes out on the 30th!
Got a friend of mine that wants this big time. I didn't even know what it was until I watched the trailer. The world needs more King's Field-likes. (Coincidentally, I need to play more of the series, as I've only beaten KFIV.)

Belmonts Curse and Final Fantasy Resonance are absolute certainty’s; there is no room for debate on this

Earth Defense Force 5 and Resident Evil 2 Remake are easily one of, if not my favorite, games in their respective series so they, too, are gimmes

Star Wars: Galactic Racer, Control Resonant (on physical), and Final Fantasy Resonance. (Lot of resonance this month, I guess.)

I'm not convinced the Dead Cells DNA is a good fit for a Castlevania game, or some of the twitch platformer stuff I've seen in the videos, so I'm cautious on Belmont's Curse. It appears to be doing precisely what the recent 2D Metroid games are doing, eschewing exploration for more action, and I cannot sigh deeply enough. Guess I need to try out the demo.

Maybe I should also have mentioned that I'm really looking forward to Control Resonant, though I might wait on that one until prime gift-giving time.

Muchi Muchi Pork! & Pink Sweets Boosted is another City Connection and TAKE×0FF rescue of STGs from release platforms of yesteryear, this time presenting a much-loved Cave double feature... or more precisely, a duo of works by genre legend Shinobu Yagawa in two of his three projects for the studio. Personally I know these games mostly through reputation, as they fell into a sort of middle period for Cave releases between the readily emulatable earlier works and before their international and digital presence started building up; this was a bundle exclusive to importing Xbox 360 STG-heads only back then. It's a happy thing for this material to see greater legitimate availability than they've ever had before.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is the big-time expansion many have been pining for the game to receive; if it's anything akin to the first game's equivalent second pass, it should improve the game's overall reputation significantly--which I already hold in higher esteem than most. D-Dog 2 in general has experienced a substantial second wind even before this new content update, as an update released last month--over two years after release--massively increased technical performance for what was originally a notoriously heavy-to-run game, so I really would not mind playing it all over again in light of those gains.

Yeah, I am counting the days until Dark Arisen 2. I was ultimately very let down by Vanilla DD2, what with the huge amount of obvious cut content upon reaching the second major area. I am still amazed and quite moved that the remaining dev team have put in what appears to be substantial time and effort to both update the game to run better and address QoL fixes, in addition to a cool looking expansion that will hopefully give DD2 a much meatier endgame for players to test themselves in. Even adding in a Hard Mode!

Castlevania Belmont's Curse

Star Wars Galactic Racer and Final Fantasy Resonance

I cannot think of a time where more games I'm interested in release in such a short time frame. Silent Hill Townfall, which I'm currently playing, is also great.

But October 15 I'm dropping everything for the new Castlevania game. I cannot wait.
