Not Embracing Embracer Group: The Thread of Weird Acquisitions

The controls in 2 are much improved, but yeah, I've never been able to make much progress in the original MML because of the jank controls.

It's pretty jank, but I highly recommend changing the setup from the default - allow free movement on the d-pad and set rotation to the triggers.

I would be worried about the status of my orders with Limited Run games, but I don't think their shipping could get any worse honestly. But I definitely won't be pre-ordering any more stuff with the Embracer news. Really sucks for all the employees and companies involved.

Honestly, I'd worry less about Limited Run than game studios.

The press releases mostly focus on video game stuff, but I wonder about Asmodee/FFG/etc. They've already been cut pretty deep but have a lot of lucrative licenses. Might end up sold off.

Also I can't remember where I saw it but allegedly the big deal that fell through for Embracer involved being acquired by the Saudi tech fund, which yuck...

It was. Reported from multiple outlets - here is Kotaku's reporting on it.

Embracer was always a bad deal. The entire idea was to get as much IP as possible to create a huge price and then to try and sell it all.

When the sole buyer backed out the entire thing fell apart. They never had the money for all those acquisitions.

I imagine AAA games studios will be first on the chopping block given the relative bloat. FFG, Limited Run, and the like are still valuable in a repackaged, smaller sell off comparatively lean and self sufficient.

FFG in particular has already been cut back a ton I know, with a bunch of things moved to different studios a while back ahead of the Asmodee acquisition by Embracer. That's why X-Wing, Armada and Legion all got dumped on tiny AMG with basically no notice. Most of FFG's new stuff since has been LCG, with the occasional board game or expansion. I just hope they get a break this time around.

My understanding is that LRG turns a consistent profit, or at least it did until the ill-advised release of a certain book

Kazin

did i do all of that?

(i think he's jokingly referring to his own book which came out a few months back)
