You wanted it; Suda wanted it; now we got it. As revealed in the middle in of a No More Heroes III trailer embedded in the middle of a Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase...

...the first two games are available on Switch as of to-day. As in "right now."

A quick comparison indicates No More Heroes is a port of the original Wii version, without the PS3 port's controversial changes to the cel shading; whether this means the quality-of-life features that made building money and getting around Santa Destroy easier are also gone is yet unclear. And of course, this is the first time No More Heroes 2 has been ported at all.

The cost of each game is 20bux, but they're 10% off until November 15.

Just waiting for a certain skeleman to come along any time now.

I never played these, and I probably should, especially for $20 a pop. My backlog just keeps growing.

I'm no skeleton but I will give some impressions as a huge fan of NMH about the port itself after a short 20 minute session up to the first boss. Controls are well adapted for a more traditional controller, very in line with Heroes Paradise or NMH2 on a classic controller, they aren't as tactile but they're smooth and responsive and give you full camera control. Detaching the joycons defaults you to a more traditional layout that's very much like the Wii version, couldn't see if there was a way to change that, not that I would but I know people for whom that would be a problem. Game looks great on the Switch's screen and as mentioned lacks any of the regrettable attempts to make it look more at home on an HD console that Heroes Paradise attempted, seems to run every bit as well as the original. I admit this all sounds pretty perfunctory but I was definitely concerned that a rerelease of a niche game might not have had the budget necessary to feel and look as good as it did originally so I'm glad to say this seems an excellent way to play NMH. Will report back if I see any changes in the open world brought in from Heroes Paradise but I must admit, I have my doubts.

Yeah doesn't seem like any of the side job improvements made it into this version, if they were a dealbreaker for you before they still will be.

The worst part of moving off the wii is using the wiremote as a cell phone.

I loved No More Heroes back in the day and would like to give it another go. I also played No More Heroes 2 and remember thinking it was better than the original, but it didn't stick with me at all. I don't remember much about it at all, while I feel like I remember most of the first game even though its been twice as long since I played it.

I liked NMH1 OK I guess, so sub-20-bux is worth it for trying out the 2nd. And if I like that, I might get the third! Or might anyway if it's, like, significantly better, we'll see, who knows

I only played the first one, but my abiding memory of it is running down a long, long corridor, fighting the same enemies in the same way over and over again. I have to be honest, friends, it did not seem like a good game to play.

2 has significant gameplay improvements but thematically and aesthetically NHM1 works better as a holistic package

This is my thoughts and memories as well, but I’m willing to see if history has been kind.

It’s definitely the game you play for cutscenes, however

Hilariously right after I wrote that I got sent them by Nintendo Life so I am literally obligated to play them now

I remember enjoying the trashy aesthetic, music and cutscenes etc so maybe I'll be able to get into 'em on this go-around. Handheld will help.

I remember hearing bad things about the gameplay in NMH1 and my reaction being "This isn't as bad as everyone said," for whatever that's worth. And I'm still not remembering it as being as bad as everyone else is remembering it!

I find Suda intriguing from a distance but I haven't played any of his games. I bought Killer7 on Steam and haven't played it yet. Considering doing the same with these.

How's the controller controls holding up for people with NMH1?

Looking forward to playing this, but my Joycons are being sent off for repairs atm.

I'm not super picky, but I am having a good time with it with a Pro Controller?

Hold 'R' and rotate the right stick to charge, High/Low attacks mapped to separate buttons, easy to move around.

Glad to hear that!

I'll definitely check it out soon with my Pro Controller.
