Coincidentally I just started rewatching the Netflix seasons.

Cry Wilderness is just... just the most inexplicable movie

Starting at 9 am ET / 6 am PT on Thursday, November 26, the marathon will feature six classic MST3K episodes, chosen by fans for the first time via a bracket elimination poll. This year also marks the first time that the marathon will be available worldwide, with MSTies outside North America able to tune in via the official MST3K Twitch and YouTube channels. Hosted by MST3K LIVE host Emily Marsh, along with Tom Servo (Conor McGiffin), Crow (Nate Begle), and GPC/MegaSynthia (Yvonne Freese), the marathon will feature new host segments, as well as special appearances by MST3K creator Joel Hodgson, and Jonah Ray (Jonah Heston) and Rebecca Hanson (Synthia) from the critically acclaimed Netflix series Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Visit MST3KTurkeyDay.com for info on how to watch the Turkey Day marathon and participate in Turkey Day festivities during the event by using the hashtag #MST3KTurkeyDay.

Someone in the twitch chat this morning pointed out that because of the heavy drinking and family fighting, I Accuse My Parents is a Thanksgiving film.

Also watch the Turkey Day Marathon please.

what's everyone's favorite episodes of mystery science theater 3000 that are available on streaming/as low quality tv recordings on youtube, i'm gonna spend new year's eve letting my brain rot by marathoning them

The official MST3k youtube channel has 23 full length episodes ready to go for you. This includes the Painted Hills (a movie starring Lassie) and Samson vs the Vampire Women. On Netflix, Cry Wilderness is a great pick.

Honestly, the Netflix seasons are all my favorite things the shows ever produced, so the whole of them get my vote.

I have mixed feelings on the Netflix seasons: the jokes are mostly solid (except when Jonah says "Oh, that's a reference to ____. right?") but I feel like there's a little less breathing room in their first season for jokes and feels less like they are playing off of each other and rushing to get good jokes in a lot of the time. I do like them working to make it a more progressive show (though I wish they didn't wait until they were done with Netflix to change Gypsy's name) and there are a lot of impressive innovations. Also, Growler is a good bot addition. Can take or leave M. Waverly.

Honestly, I prefer the sheer joke density; i can rewatch an episode repeatedly and still find something new.

Plus, with the show coming back after 20 years, it felt like they were making up for lost time

I’ve been watching random YouTube uploads of MST3k lately, and Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders wins my noprize for the sheer absurdity of the movie itself. It’s clearly trying to be a Princess Bride knock-off, only instead of a charming Grandpa reading a silly bedtime story, it’s a disgruntled TV writer recalling inappropriate spec scripts he wrote for an old horror show. And the grandkid only puts up with it because the TV is broken, and he is annoyed with the genuinely bad storytelling choices his grandfather makes. It hits its nadir when an evil monkey toy kills the family dog in a fire.

Solid WTF out of five, would barely listen to it while playing Picross again

My favorite thing about this one apart from Ernest Borgnine (and apologies if you already know this) is that the evil monkey segment is from an entirely different movie the director had made a decade ago that was cut up to remove the more R rated parts and to add the Merlin subplot.

And is an unlicensed adaption of a Stephen King story. Like, its never been sussed out in court or anything but both are stories about a cymbal-playing toy monkey that kills things when it claps. In the King story, the lead drops the monkey in the bottom of a lake and many dead fish are reported from here on in.

Also, I didn't know this until recently when they re-riffed it on Rifftrax last week or so, but the opening segment of the old lady getting her house lightning blown up is actually the START of that same movie that the back half is cut up from. The Devil's Gift circa 198-something. In the original Merlin did not arrive and everyone died.

That’s incredible. So it’s a washed-up writer telling his grandson about old spec scripts he ripped off from the movie the kid was watching.

Less monumentous than all this other stuff, Joel and Matt McGinnis are the guests on this weeks episode of The Flophouse.
