Just reached Saturn village. Nice to finally experience a major reference I've been missing out on for almost three decades.

Ready to infiltrate the mine in the desert.

I do have to say that this game was a huge innovator i belch sampling technology.

I don't know if it's true or not but I maintain that Moonside is, at least in part, a Pink Floyd reference to the Dark Side of the Moon album. Maybe I'm reading to much into it but stuff like the Mani Mani Statue bringing forth the desire for fame and fortune mirrors the song "Money" which is about greed and consumerism. The fact that Moonside is a very distorted fun-house mirror version of Fourside mirrors the song "Eclipse", which deals with alterity and the concept of dualism.

Another musical connection is that Moonside's "music" is a sample of Ric Ocasek's "Keep On Laughing", which features lyrics like "You got a feeling, well, it's up to you / Sometimes you want to run away / Sometimes you think you do / But you never had a dream like this before."

In any case, Moonside is one of my favorite settings in video games.

did their best!
I always like to point out that the villain of Fourside (and by extension Moonside) is a real estate agent who is bad at his job but now somehow has a giant tower named after himself and a penthouse office made out of gold or, you know, ol' Donnie Trumples. The similarities are so specific, I refuse to believe it isn't intentional.

Can we take a second to appreciate how stellar the localization is? Probably my favorite SNES script.
I'm actually really surprised at the number of retranslation hacks there are out there, given that Earthbound is one of the only SNES games that doesn't needs such a thing at all. (It's not the natively-English wonder that is Secret of Evermore, but nothing is.)

Found out about the caterpillar leveling trick, which was good because Poo's levels when he joins are... well, you know.

Now that you have your full party, I can finally post this, without spoiling anything:

Two Guardians left, and I'm in what feels like Terry Pratchett's version of Egypt from Pyramids. This game is cray y'all.

Finished it. The endgame was affecting from the moment I started fighting Giygas to the "I Miss You". What a magical game.

It was also cool seeing all the influences on Undertale firsthand, of which there were very, very many.

Congrats! I'm glad you experienced and enjoyed this beautiful game. Now, I can finally show you the thing that I wanted to post here since the beginning of the thread. This one is definitely full of spoilers:

Ok, I'm too dumb to understand how to use the Youtube-include thing, so here is the link.

I knew what you were referencing and watched it then.

And I am going to watch it again now.

No joke, I tear up every time. Such a great tribute to one of my most favorite games.

I cry a bit every time, too. Mostly, it's the part where Ness calls home, crying, while Paula defends him from the crocodile. But when he wakes up, all his friends surrounding him, and the last part, when he travels home, also gets me easily. I love this video.

It was also a neat surprise finally seeing where your avatar came from. Mr. Saturns are everywhere, but I didn't know about Tendas until this week.
