So for the old-folks around here (and those that just like the games of gone-by eras), there's plenty of homebrew on older systems and computers (the 2600, Commodore 64, etc). I've been waiting on the NA release of The C64 (full sized), somewhat impatiently, and am looking into programming on the thing for grins (assembly since that's really needed for anything w/ good performance, though some basic text adventures or some such may be fun as well). So, anyone else into homebrew for the older systems, and if so, any suggestions or anticipated releases?

Micro Mages is a new NES game! That you could get on an actual cart, and was recently showcased at this past SGDQ. You can also play it on Steam.

They also have this neat little documentary describing how they managed to squeeze so much into just the original NES ROM!

Rom hacks count, well I mean anything does given it's a suggestions thread :) The Micro Mages game looks interesting as well. Seems very in touch w/ the current indie scene style. It's also an 8 bit styled game that's on an actual 8 bit system. Bonus points.

Oh, in case anyone in here is looking to dabble in development, there's a fair amount of tutorials on assembly / coding for the older systems available. Here's a good set that covers the basic environment setup and walks through beginning stuff for the C64:
