I've now read through all the comics in this thread and these are my favorite parts

Aug 29 lazy boyfriend: "pass it along, would you, I can't be fucked to go all the way 'round back and do this all over again"
Oct 8 "you're confusing some things"
Oct 13 adorable anime Merry
Nov 3 what the song is like (lol) - eta and come to think of it also relateable. Years ago, my best friend played me a recording of a music performance she'd sung in, and my first comment was "this soloist doesn't sound very good." ...it was my friend. I made a flustered apology but The Shame has never died. It's been at least two decades.
Nov 11 - not a favorite per se but this one's also relateable. I literally did not join Facebook because while I was never physically assaulted by my female classmates they shut me out mercilessly and I really do not want to see or hear from any of them before I die

This whole sequence has been really good, madhair. I'm interested in seeing where it goes next.

I appreciate that a lot. I'm really grateful to anyone reading. I thought that doing this every day would eventually make me better at it. My new year's resolution is to start properly putting backgrounds in, but backgrounds are kryptonite to me. I need some simple, stylised way to do it. I feel like this storyline suffers from not having them.

I believe using free/public domain backgrounds (whether drawings or photos of actual places) and then using photoshop to match it generally to your art style is the big and easy cheat?

I think you're doing a good job setting the scene even without backgrounds. There's never any confusion as to whether the characters are at home, work, etc.

I spent a little time looking at Peanuts strips to get an idea of how a comics master handled backgrounds. Sometimes they are rather elaborate, trees, sidewalk, etc. At others there is just a suggestion of the side of a house, or a scraggly line evoking grass, and that's it. Anyhow looking at other 4-panel comics could provide some inspiration.

I feel so damn bad for Merry, having to do the work of soothing and cheering up her own abuser.

Bella is dead, and Merry is going to worry that it'll be pinned on her.

Now that I've noticed it, all I can think about is Daniel having an armchair directly outside Liz's bedroom door.

I like these comics. They are funny. And sometimes gross, but in a cool way. Also, holy shit, is that a guest comic by the author of IT HURTS? That's rad.

About the latest strip (EDIT: second latest, got ninjaed): Welp, I guess people like that don't so much learn to be sorry as they learn to be sorry for themselves.
