You and your various web sites and your singular wife should come to Mastodon. Not just because it would give me more to read there, but mostly that.

I can't make heads nor tails of what I'm supposed to do on Mastodon. I've signed up for other stuff, but haven't started using them yet.

That was a nice read, well done.

Also, does that mean you never experienced the postgame of these games? 2 and 3 have some of the best postgame I ever experienced, with a bit more story, worldbuilding, dungeons and bosses. If you never experienced them, give them a go.

Thanks, and not for myself. I've seen some bits here and there online, but not really played them. Maybe now I can finally check them out! =D

2 and 3 are the only ones with really good postgame, imho. There are always extra dungeons, where you have to show your full chip library, and stuff like that, but dungeons in MMBN are pretty lame on their own. The cool thing about 2 and 3 is that there is a bit of extra story and lore, and there are completely new bosses, which is always nice. I think 1, 4, 5 and 6 don't have these, they only have new internet areas and some sort of challenges against the regular Net Navis, I think? Basically, they were disappointing, after the tons of content that 2 and especially 3 offered.

Oh, and they have these fun special viruses that work like puzzles, where you have to hit three stationary ones all at once for a minimum amount of damage. I mean, I found those always fun, it's a nice puzzle. Maybe others hate them, don't know.

Granted, it's a million years since I played the postgame of 3, so grain of salt. And I'm a weirdo who always really liked the story and characters, with a special weakness for Bass that stuck until today, so maybe the extra lore is pointless to normal people. But still, it's really worth it, and after the first shock and a bit of adjustment, the final bosses are not so bad.

You see, when I played the games when they were new, I never went for good folders. I always just put powerful chips in there, with alphabet soup codes. My focus was always the buster. And even so, with just putting strong chips in the folder, did I manage to beat these bosses, simply by dodging their attacks, healing and getting a bunch of hits in. You really don't need a good folder, and while I did the jobs and got stuff that way, I never went out of the way to grind for strong chips. I got enough just by playing.

Except for that fusion-sword chip. Forgot how it is called, when you combine multiple chips to one, but the one where you combine Sword, WideSword and LongSword into one. ElementSword maybe? It does 400 damage. I probably had two sets in my folder, which probably helped a lot.

It's kinda wild to think that we have what I think is now all the Mega Man series' on modern platforms except fuckin' Legends. Maybe there's... a chance?

Edit: Ah hold up, the Game Boy games are still locked down to 3DS, right? But shit dude, we've even got the arcade games. And the NGPC port of the arcade games lmao. Now if we just had Legends and MM&B I'd be satisfied.

Are the Star Force games on the Battle Network Collection? I kind of assume they must be. Does anyone even care?

But yeah, I'd really like to see an "odds 'n' ends" collection with Legends, Tron Bonne, MM&B, the Game Boy games... maybe even Battle & Chase, despite it being pretty dull. Mega Man Soccer?

Star Force 2 had a plot where the villains evil plan is to unfriend everyone on Facebook, thereby destroying the world, which is also how it wiped out the dinosaurs, Vikings and ninjas.

So it’s certainly not without mwrits

Mega Man Star Force 2 also had the most weirdly depressing post game scenario in the Mega Man franchise, which is unusual for a game that otherwise had about the same tone as a slightly more violent My Little Pony.

No. It's only all of the versions of the first 6 MMBN games.

Almost; Mega Man Battle Network 5 Double Team DS and Operate Shooting Star aren't included.

I like Star Force. Well, the first one. Didn't finish the second, and need to get/play the third.

Other remaining games not collected:

- Legends 1&2
- Misadventures of Tron Bonne
- Mega Man & Bass
- Mega Man Battle & Chase
- Rockboard
- Super Adventure Rockman
- Mega Man 1-5 for Game Boy
- Mega Man Powered Up
- Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X
- Mega Man Xtreme 1&2
- Mega Man X Command Mission
- Mega Man Network Transmission
- Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge
- Rockman.EXE 4.5 Real Operation

Then there's the oddballs from mobile and PC:

- Rockman.EXE Phantom of Network,
- Rockman.EXE Legend of Network
- Rockman DASH 5 Island Adventure
- Rockman Xover

And, if we really want to split hairs:

- Mega Man 8 (Saturn version)
- Mega Man X3 (PS/Saturn/PC version)
- Mega Man X DiVE (still ongoing with updates as of this writing)
- Rockman Complete Works (enhanced versions of 1-6 for PS1)

All that, without getting into the really simple, strange, obscure, and/or licensed by Bandai or other companies that they probably can't touch.

If I may pointedly whinge - I think the lack of Battle Chip Challenge on the new collection is a bit rum. We're talking four games on collection 1 and six games on collection 2; they couldn't have thrown BCC into collection 1?

It is, and this is not a bit, my favourite one.

I was obsessed with the game for a day, so there is clearly fun to be had with it. And, assuming this is how netbattling normally works, for everyone who doesn't have a special connection like Lan and Megaman, it explains why everyone is so much more incompetent than a little kid.

Anyway, would you mind writing a bit why you enjoy it the most? I think it felt too luck-based for me, as time went on? But I did enjoy it a lot, for that day?

Because these questions always feel like the other person is asked to defend their taste - that's not the case. I'm honestly interested in what you see in that game that gets overlooked by most.

Also, agreed, they could really have added that one too. If nothing else, it's a unique and, imho, interesting experience.

this is going to seem rude, but: https://retronauts.com/article/928/reconsidered-mega-man-battle-chip-challenge

basically, I think that the RPG components of the Mega Man Battle Network games that I played - basically 1, 2 and 5 - are main rubbish, but I do like the aesthetic and such. Setting up a "deck" and just watching it go while listening to the extremely good and extremely Mega Man-ish music is kinda... relaxing? I dunno! I just enjoy it! It's almost like a little idle game or something. Grindy, but requires very little input so you can "play" it while just watching movies or whatever.

I do wish BCC had been there, mainly because I'm a TurboMan mark. But it would have rounded things out more... and saved me ten bucks when the Wii U eShop was closing down.

- Mega Man 8 (Saturn version)

It remains weird to me that they seem to just refuse to make this version of the game available. I'm sure it has to do with weird Saturn architecture and getting it to run properly on modern systems, but they never even really seem to acknowledge that the Saturn port has additional content from the PSX original.

It's two boss fights right? Cutman and Woodman? I've been wondering exactly where they turn up. I mean I have to be honest, any changes to the PS1 game that necessitate playing Mega Man 8 for longer are not welcome in the house of madhair.

My guess re: the goddamn hold up with Legends is that the first game's controls probably warrant some revision to meet modern QoL standards. I feel like they'd catch so much crap if they didn't make analog control available for the first game.

I thought they did that for the PSP release? And I think 2 had something, but I never used it.

At the very least, would it be so hard to add the content to the PS version?

Yeah, they're integrated into two of the stages.

And, in case anyone missed it:
