Masters of the Universe: Revelation

I just finished it myself. I'm... honestly not sure how I feel about it. There are places I wish it had gone.

Some good stuff, but it still felt like He-Man was sidelined a bit more than I'd have liked. And I'd also have liked to see a bit quicker change of heart from Evil-Lyn - I think I'd have liked to have seen the version where she and the others teamed up to take down Skeletor, as opposed to making her the big bad. And while she's ostensibly "good", she also nuked Preternia. Regardless of her change of heart, that's quite the act to be responsible for, unless they wanted to somehow bring it back in a future season.

Some other stuff:

- Orko was fun. Really glad to see him show back up.
- That last scene with Skeletor was... huh. Guessing this isn't going to get another season? Maybe all my gripes would have been resolved in that.
- Teela's plot arc felt a little... easy. I'm not expecting deep thoughts here, but the whole "power of my friends" stuff really feels like it cheapened the sacrifice her mother made to obtain that power.
- Super mad crazy He-Man was interesting. Kinda wild to see him in brute strength form.
- Man, they really, really screwed Beastman over. To watch Evil-Lyn use him just like Skeletor used her was just... ugh.
- Hey, finally, Adam and Teela are a thing!

Guess that's all I've got for now. Solid overall. And I admit, maybe I'm not necessarily the target audience - I wasn't a He-Man fan growing up.

Oh, and Skeletors voice actor was great. I never heard that guy, only knew the show in the German version.

If you liked that, I recommend a movie called "The Star Wars". It's a bit obscure, but if you look hard, you might be able to find it's presence online.

EDIT: Light teasing aside, Hamill has had a Hell of a voice acting career. His Joker is career redefining but he's done a ton of noteworthy stuff since and killing it.

Wait, you never heard Mark Hamill? Or are you refering to the original run of He-Man? Because that was a very very different performance.

I just don't remember voice actors, and assumed this was the same guy who did Skeletors voice in the German version. But, yeah, it's actually a name that I know (which, honestly, is rare enough).

Hmm, I think when I recently watched the first SW movie (episode 4), I watched the German version. But certainly Mark Hamills Luke isn't nearly as over-the-top as this Skeletor was, right?

I actually was pretty mad at the show, for doing that, until it gave her a reason for ending it all. Still not sure how I feel about this - seeing Evil-Lyn go full on evil overlord was pretty cool, and I liked her Sorceress and, uh, Super-Sorceress(?) costumes a lot. But, yeah, it felt a bit off, and I guess I need to think about this more.

Hamill's movie career never really took off* but he is all over the voice acting scene and his top-notch performance as The Joker is a big reason why.

* Fun Fact: Hamill appeared as himself in addition to appearing as Luke Skywalker on The Muppet Show 'cuz he and they could both see he was at risk of being typecast in one particular role.

Lyn because the villain because she isn't a cipher. Her seeing the supposed pointlessness of existence gets her all JRPG villain. Skeletor is almost too dumb to care, and is just venal and obsessed with his confrontation with He-man,

Three episodes into Part 2, and I love that Evil Lyn just gets sick of Skeletor's nonsense and takes the sword from him and I especially love Eviler Lyn's buff new look, she is rocking that cape made of outer space, but I honestly kind of hate HOW she gets the sword from Skeletor. We really, REALLY didn't need to see that or even have the thought of them hooking up implied. There's a million different ways Lyn could have gotten the sword from Skeletor, they didn't have to resort to seduction and one of the cringiest animated kisses ever to grace the TeeVee.

When the trailer for part 2 dropped, I thought it was playing things a bit predictably, considering how part one shook out w/r/t MotU. I have been disabused of that opinion.

Finished now, loved part 2, and really hope there’s a part 3.

He-Man and Skeletors final battle taking the form of Skeletor refusing to accept he’s not the actual big bad, and that his conflict with He-Man being tangential to the story really sums up the whole series

The cliffhanger ending was interesting, but I wonder if it's something they can deliver on? From what I've heard, even though the series was on Netflix, it's Dreamworks that currently owns She-Ra, so they'd need to clear with them if they want to bring Etheria and the Horde on their He-Man show, even though it's a different version of She-Ra and she originated from He-Man anyway.

IP rights are weird.

This is out now, five whole episodes and ends on another cliffhanger.

Biggest surprise is that Shatner isn't playing Gwildor, like I thought with how the trailer was cut, but Adam's long-lost uncle Keldor, and if you know who that actually is you probably had the same 'wait what?' reaction as me, but don't worry, they get to it.

I also realized that Queen Marlena was played by Gates McFadden, which I can't recall if this was the case in the first series or not but it's a neat bit of extra Star Trek-ness in the voice cast. And it's not even the only one, John de Lancie pops up as well! Why there hasn't been a cartoon with this many random Star Trek alums since Gargoyles, and what do you know that ALSO had Keith David!

But the cliffhanger has a rather surprising reveal, that being Despara, which again if you know your Masters of the Universe might make you go 'huhhh?' But this might be how they're getting around the whole 'cant' technically use She-Ra/Adora' thing. We'll see.

I just watched the first episode so far, and when Keldor showed up my eyes were agog.

The 'problem' is that he's blue Shatner. His voice is just too recognizable.

I was trying to stretch this out so I wouldn’t have to wait as long for the next season but… well… probably going to have to anyway.

Unlike, like, damn near every other Cool Badass Revivials of a franchise I love, this version of MotU is not at all embarrassed about itself. It fully understands the assignment and loves how friggin’ ridiculous everything about the setting is and it doesn’t detract from the cool parts. They have He-Man his rotating barrel armor and Hordak turned into a rocket with his own face and it was all fantastic.

Much like Superman, it understands that the appeal of He-Man is the strongest thing on the planet also being the worlds friendliest dorkus.

Hordaks love of alliteration felt kind of… out of place; I don’t think that was a thing before.

Andra and Motherboard are the only new characters in the series right? Not counting Old Characters with New Outfits

With each season, I found it impossible not to watch the whole thing in one go. It's more like five episodes are actually one two-hour long one, with artificial breaks.
