I don’t know how they managed to make Orko my favourite character, but here we are, with Orko being my favourite character.

Thats just the world we live in now.

Absolutely loved this and am now very impatient for more.

My ONLY gripe is they goofed on one key part about Orko.
Orko is the BEST wizard on Trollah. His magic goes haywire on Eternia due to the differing energies.

As great as it is, it's definitely not She-Ra gay. I think it's not that queer, in general. At least, there wasn't much that registered with me.

Couple episodes in and I quite like it so far.

I saw Episode 2 had a 'Fear' warning at the start which I thought was odd. As I watched the episode I didn't really see anything frightening, and then

Did Kevin Smith actively write the whole of these episodes? I could believe it, because the number one thing that the two most established women in the cast talk about together is that they both had big ol' crushes on their respective leading men. It very much reminds me of old Kevin Smith movies where Jay and Silent Bob take the time to shout "no homo" between dialogue beats.

But to say something nice: I generally enjoyed the whole of this series, and am interested to see where it is going. Like, it kind of felt like "modern reboot 101", but it was still fun for what it was.

Ok, finished. I liked it quite a bit, though I honestly wish they just waited and gave us all of season 1 at once because that was just a taste. And that cliffhanger, child-me always wondered what would happen if Skeletor ever held aloft the sword of power.

Some of the voices still threw me off, mostly due to recognizing their voice actors from other things, but eh. That's a me-problem.

Also, the Horde got name-dropped! I kinda doubt they'll bring She-Ra and Etheria into things in the second half of season 1, but at least it's there. Though, with the designs that are relatively faithful to the originals, I kind of want to see THIS show's take on Hordak. I bet he'd even snort!

Kevin Smith is the ur-straight white guy, so I'm not surprised that the queer undertones were dropped entirely in favor of machismo and explosions?

Ham-handed good morals, weak puns and explosions, at least.

I do appreciate that this version of He-Man is a completely earnest cornball, possibly even in excess of the original.

Also that heaven exists in this universe but it’s only for 6 equally earnest cornballs.

Liked this just fine, She Ra is better but it’s better than most things. Skeletor is just the DCAU joker now but it’s been a minute since that guy was around too so I can’t complain too much.

“Ya did good Linny!”

Was one of the Six Cornballs You Meet in Heaven Thundarr the Barbarian?

Because one of them looked kinda like Thundarr

Who was the lady that looked like the Sorceress, in this Heaven? I find it really funny, that this heaven doesn't do an automatic translation/understanding, so she will be forever in heaven with people who she can't understand, and who can't understand her.

Regarding Teelas reaction: Yeah, it's bad, but also...that's how people react to tragedy, right? I mean, you shouldn't lash out at everyone, but in such a situation, you are kind of a mess. That pain has to go somewhere, and sometimes, it gets turned into anger. Not good, but very human.

Also, saw someone on reddit complain about the show making He-Mans death all about Teela. I assume he doesn't mind as much, all the time it happens with reversed gender roles. Just a guess, of course.

AFAIK; except for He-Ro, Greyskull, Adam, Mossman and Panthor, nobody in Heaven is an existing character.

Save that one guy who looks a lot like Thundarr

I've only watched the first episode. Holy damn did they really kill of Skeletor and Adam in the first episode?!?! There's no way that's gonna stick, but damn if that's not a strong opening. Wondering how that choice would really land for someone who doesn't know anything about He-Man though, like why should some little kid watching this for the first time give a shit about them?

True, but it feels alot like the target audience is primarily fans of the old show, from the 80s. For someone else, there woulsd be a lot of subtext missing. Like, you need to know that Teela doesn't know that Adam is He-Man, and that this was the case for a long time. It doesn't feel like a standalone thing, to me.

I’m genuinely upset that that Evil-Lyn and Beastman just went back with Skeletor, after they saw how much he squandered, risking the entire universe in his bullshit quest to take over the world.

I was honestly expecting Evil-Lyn to do a double cross with joining Skeletor as a fake-out and then betraying him before he could use the Sword of Power.

Of course they are “villains” and “Evil” was right in her name, yeah sure, whatever. But the growth all of the characters experienced over the miniseries made it fall so flat
.

We all know that isn’t the end of the miniseries, I guess.

It just makes me nowhere near as interested to continue with it, once it’s been released.

Sure that would be great. And maybe if it wasn’t the end of the half-season, I’d be less bothered by it.

But as-is it took the wind out of my sails if you know what I mean.

Oh sure, that's fair. I still believe we should have gotten the whole season at once even if it would have delayed things a bit.

I read that scene as her being too perplexed to find that Skeletor isn't actually dead. As he was dead, she could remember him as this icon of pure evil, that she admired. She could still do her own thing, even if she remembered him in that way. Now, that he is back, this will not work anymore. Also, I think it makes for a better arc, her helping Skeletor and coming to terms with the fact, that times have changed.

But I get your frustration. I was sad to see that, even if it didn't hit me as hard.

My issue with that idea is that that fuck literally sat in her wand this whole fucking time, and from the context seems to have heard everything.

And didn’t change one fucking bit. He still ganked Adam without hesitation and did his megalomaniac villainy bit.

There’s no way Lyn would be capable of convincing the most selfish fucker on Eternia to change his ways at this point.

Maybe if we saw anything, ever in his portrayal here I’d give Skeletor more credit. But we saw nothing similar to Hordak’s treatment in She-Ra before he got anything resembling a redemption.

Meanwhile, both she and Beastman saw the other side where you didn’t have to lookout for yourself constantly and fight the rest of your team to make sure you got what you needed.

And godsdamnit, she would have saved Orko if she had any magic left. And she regretted that, despite the fact it might have killed her
.

You know?

While I would love a redemption arc for Skeletor more than you could ever possibly guess, it’s pretty inconceivable at this point.

Unless part 2 takes place during Christmas, I guess

I genuinely would love a sequel to the He-Man and She-Ra Christmas Special with the new He-Man and She-Ra shows despite how much they differ in tone and appearance. Just lean right into the camp.

I really want there to be a crossover and half of it is done in He-Man’s art style, and the other half in She-Ra’s. Both styles have to use the costume design of the other (so no 80s She-Ra designs).

It would be the best fucking thing.

So I'm finally watching this and I'm... kind of confused as to what this even is? The best way I can describe it is it feels like this is the animated continuation of like... a fanfiction series someone has been writing for several years that I was unaware of.

Every time a character gets introduced, it's very much in this "hey! Look who it is!" sort of way. We're not really introducing anyone for a new audience, just bringing in a character they're already supposed to be familiar with. But then if you compare these characters to their original He-Man incarnations they don't match up at all. (Like, the cat didn't talk before, right?)

And like, I'm cool with doing the reimagined thing. You can totally rework stuff and put your own spin on this set of characters, but... the whole deal this show is going for is some kind of years later, characters are older and reflecting on things sorta deal so like... I dunno I feel like just doing this as an original thing without the license would work better? Especially when you're explicitly tossing out the two best known characters. Just having a He-Man-like setting and character arrangement. Lean heavy on obvious parallels as much as you need to, like plenty of other shows building off established things do, and you have all the leeway you want for new characters and lore and whatnot.

And you know, if I ignore all that and just look at it as it's own independent thing... fun toyetic world, weird nano-robo-zombie thing for villains doesn't really work great visually or feel kid friendly. Characters feel really underdeveloped and one-note. Weird having characters dying then showing up in the afterlife and having other characters die and not turning up in the afterlife, shouldn't they be just like, right over there now? Soundtrack kinda sucks.
