Masterlist discussion thread - And the category is...

Johnny Unusual

(He/Him)
Just a place to discuss the master list. I kind of want to keep the Masterlist threads purely as a resource so if you want to discuss the Masterlists here, let's do it.

Speaking of, should mini-sized popularity contests be placed in the core list line up with the top 50s or be considered their own thing. I like the former, others might be more interested in the latter. Discuss. I'm usually willing to acquiesce to the majority.

I don't think ones that can't quite hit 50 (for whatever reason) should necessarily be separated into their own list. They're popularity contests no matter the final count. Hell, my last official contest technically had more than 50, lol.

I dont think we should organize them based on any perceived popularity. There are plenty of these that I followed or voted in but didn't submit anything to.

Unless I missed something (and I do sometimes miss something), I don't *think* anyone is suggesting that. But I think the idea is to separate the "side story" lists which weren't voted in officially and are a result of tyrants taking initiative with their own thing and go at their own pace parallel to the main lists (the Paul F Tompkins List, The Simpsons Episodes list, the upcoming Fighting Game Characters list). Then we would put it outside the regular numbering. If there's some incentive for numbering one way or the other, I do have a big idea for when we hit 50; not a list, exactly but another little activity that would take nearly a year (without eating into actual list time).

I guess my thing with me and Pos's lists being separate is that they were mini lists for a reason. The Pokemon list was going to take some time, so we needed something smaller to keep things going, and our lists just happened to tie is why they both exist.

It's just a label, so whether it's considered a main list or a side one is all the same to me. That said, is there any benefit to this labeling? If so then we're talking about three labels - long official, short official and unofficial. And then we're just one step away from arguing if Zelda is an RPG.

I think False was just being silly with that post.
No, I just misunderstood the original idea that Johnny had. I don't know if I see any value in separating them based on whether they were voted or not. But, I'm not invested either way.

I can think of nothing more Talking Time than arguing about how to categorize our arguments about categorization.

I can see the argument for not separating the mini lists. A lot of the "Top 50" lists weren't strictly 50 entries. I do think the "side story" designation for lists not voted on is useful though.
