? I'm not suggesting anything of the sort. I'm specifically arguing against such a thing.

I just don't understand the rationale. If I click on an LP, it's because I want to read it, which means I want to see the screenshots. If it's a new update, the forum software will jump straight to the newest post. If I'm looking for something older, I'll need to expand them all anyway to find what I'm looking for. It just sounds to me like extra work for zero benefit.

I'm genuinely asking because I'm unfamiliar with the forum in its current incarnation: is there any situation or "reader" for the forum where a photo-heavy Let's Play would load for anyone for any reason other than they distinctly clicked on the Let's Play? Because I'd hate to gunk up someone's "feed" with a hundred pictures of Shion emoting for no reason, but, conversely, if you see it's stated as a screenshot LP in the first post, a wall of images sounds about right on entry.

Soooo... Are the old forum's LPs just lost forever now? Because I kept all of my old LPs archived for just such an eventuality.

The entirety of the old forum has been archived. Check "Talking about Private Membership" for details.

Re: Images, you can use smaller thumbnails that when clicked will enlarge into the full image (or link to such from most image hosting sites nowadays), which should mitigate the issue?

I am formally claiming World of Final Fantasy: Maxima. The first few "chapters" should be up this afternoon.

Wanna hear something weird?

I'm gonna do an LP of Cave Story.

Yeah, weird, huh.

Is the archiving of the old LPs going to make them show up in the new format? There's a lot of old LPs that I wanted to read (Xenosaga in particular) that the combination of small pictures and bad CSS made really painful on my phone. With the new CSS making pictures blow up to fit the size of my phone while not making me constantly grow and then shrink so I can read the text I'd like to get at them.

It's very unlikely. I might be able to improve the CSS for the archive for mobile viewers, at least.

This isn't a claim yet, I just wanted to see if there was any interest.

I am going to CLAIM...

Everquest
, running on an emulated server based around 1999-2001 era. Starting from level 1, going till maybe level 10 or so?

Edit: Really just asking because it's my first LP, and don't know if I'd do it if nobody would be interested.

Sounds fascinating, although as someone who has never played an MMO, I'm not sure I'm necessarily the target audience.

TyrMcDohl is doing Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn so I think it would be interesting to see one of its "ancestors". I really only know EverQuest from its reputation so it would be interesting to see what it's actually like.

World of Final Fantasy LP is completed.

As many are already aware (and watching), next up is a LP of Xenogears. I would call it a "hybrid" LP, and should be officially starting in forum-form soon.

... And what is the final answer on how many images are allowed in a NuTT post?

More than you should put in any given LP post. Unless your engagement is off the charts, you'll overwhelm people's browsers.

Okay, to be clear, everything I am saying in this post is, like, clinical. Not trying to sound cynical or sarcastic or whatever at any point, legitimately asking questions from my perspective so this can be planned to be done "right".

Also, I'm not really talking about the upcoming Xenogears LP, which is primarily based on video, but will involve pictures. This is more thinking of my eventual next screenshot LP.

So you can still fish out my Xenosaga LP on the old forum, but it's also on gogglebob.com . Not knowing how linking with the old forum data works here, I'll just link to the gogglebob.com link I am talking about: Xenosaga Episode 2: Sidequest Roundup. But do not click that link if you're on dial-up, but if memory serves, this was one of the longest single "chapters" in that LP, so it works as the example. It is XS Episode 2: Chapter 11, if you want to look at the old forum post notation. Looking at it on the old forum, that "chapter" was 11 parts on its own. It was only separated for the purpose of supporting the 25 picture limit per post, so that "chapter" contains a maximum of 275 pngs/gifs, and no less than 251. Again, that was one of the most intensive chapters in the LP (it covers EVERY sidequest in XS2), but there wasn't much room for "editing down" pictures there. I hate clipping pictures out of video for LPs. I think it is the worst part. If I could make it less pictures, I would, but, dammit, the public deserves to see Shion talk to a bunny rabbit.

So, that said, what would be the best way to post a "chapter" that contains 275 images on the new forum? It can be separated into multiple posts, but that is all going to load when someone accesses the message board "page" anyway. Mind you, I am thinking of how I use the forum here, if people more commonly access individual posts, or individual posts are loaded across the forum when you're just looking at some other post, whatever happens there, I'm not aware of it. I am also thinking within the parameters of how the old messageboard "worked" in this case, so if there's a better way, I would like to learn about it.

Again, Xenogears isn't going to be that image intensive, but if a post does get... unwieldly... due to visual aids, I don't want to bump up against some "Goggle Bob broke the forum" issue because I wanted to do a deep dive on Fei's animation frames. I like this place, I want to properly accommodate as many people as possible.

It's a legitimately difficult problem that I don't think has a silver bullet solution. The ideal solution, like I said, is to have enough other people commenting that you don't have to worry about splitting your posts, and if you can achieve that, more power to you. But it's 30 posts per page on this forum, so plan accordingly. I think if I were doing a new LP of a fairly popular title, I'd aim to stay between 30-40 images per post. If I'm being honest, you probably get better engagement than I do on average, so you could bump that a bit higher but not by much.

On my latest LP, which is receiving only comments by Mogri occasionally, I'm just plopping in 100 images. I can't make people engage with the content and cutting things up into 30 or 40 images chunks is a lot of work. When I'm already doing a lot of work.

Your images probably have lower filesize, I imagine -- but yes, it really is up to the LPer.

That's true I do make them smaller. And this system doesn't seem to choke on images the way the old system did. Of course I have no idea what the user experience is for other people.

I don't think you can load a single post all by itself (unless I am missing something). When I tried right-clicking the link for a single post and opening it in a new tab XenForo has a new tab but it opens and loads the thread page the post is on and just scrolls to / focuses on the selected post.

On the old forum, it took me, like, two years to find that little button that took you immediately to the most recent post you hadn't seen. Prior to that, I was just clicking on the last available page in a thread, and hoping for the best. Likely as a result of that experience, I always assume I am sitting in my cave, using the forum "wrong", and everyone else is whizzing around in their hovercars, accessing the forum in the most efficient way possible that will forever be unknown to me.

I had the old forum set up that it always went to the newest post first and I could read back to where I left off. Here it does that automatically the first time you click through but then resets to first post if you go back in before another post. I haven't figured out if there is a way to change that or not here.

I'm claiming a LP for X-Men (Genesis/Mega Drive, 1993). The semi-frustrating action platformer that is actually pretty neat once you get comfortable.
