Having played through another world of this, its flaws are somewhat magnified but it’s undeniably a good time. I only wish it was better. I did those first few levels like “oh wow, they nailed it, can’t wait for things to open up”, but… they haven’t.

Still, two worlds or so left; much more to see. I’d recommend it to anyone, really.

It's so hard to justify me getting this game for $60 when the demo disappointed me and I feel like I know what I'm going to feel (good time, but ultimately a little underwhelmed) but I just love Kirby so much it's hard to avoid buying it anyways!

Most Kirby platformers fall under “good but not great” for me. I expect comfort food gaming that occasionally surprises me. This game feels middle of the road so far, with the Mouthful abilities being the best part. They remind me of the wacky combo powers from 64.

I'm both thrilled and a bit disappointed by this game. The levels are amazing aesthetically and well-designed and the transition to 3D is flawless mechanically, Mouthful mode is fun take on the Hyperpower/Mech Armor type mechanic. The boss fights are a real highlight, I loved the animation on Sillydillo and the boss fights for Meta Knight and King Dedede are great translations of their classic fights.

That said the game feels a bit anemic by HAL's own lofty standards. No hidden levels for full clearing a world, fewer powers, those powers having reduced mechanical complexity, fewer levels overall, only four minibosses, it feels a bit light. I know a lot of this is the inevitable result of the new design and having to abandon the very smart reuse of a decade of assets they've relied upon, but it still is a little bit disappointing by the expectations HAL has set for recent Kirby games. Diving into postgame content and see if there are some real surprises there. A sold round of post-launch support like Star Allies got would do wonders.

Babywulf beat the game this morning. He clearly got tired of waiting for me to play it with him and just charged through the last four stages. At least I can still help find the rest of the Waddle Dees!

I finished this and I’m afraid I didn’t like it overall. The level design often feels perfunctory and piecemeal and the inane reliance on timed segments brings the whole package down for me. The bosses were great though.

I'm also enjoying it more and more as I go along. These post-game levels are pretty cleverly designed, and actually fairly tough as Kirby levels go.

I found the last couple of post-game bosses to be about as difficult as anything I've ever played in a Kirby game. Which is to say, ultimately pretty manageable, but they took me a few tries apiece.

Forgotten Land takes a while to pick up, resulting in me sort of forgetting about the game for a while. Eventually, I really gave it a good try and now I love Kirby. I did 100% of the stuff and had a lot of fun with the majority of it. I even ended up ordering Kirby: Triple Deluxe, as my hunger for the Kirb’ has not been satiated.

I think the final, final, final last boss is better than Elden Ring’s last boss.

I picked up this game, feeling like I wanted something easy and breezy after Triangle Strategy. Made it through the first set of levels + boss so far. It's definitely easy and breezy! Although I finally started missing some things in the levels at the mall. Cute as hell, but it hasn't really grabbed me yet.

I dunno if this is a criticism, but I've noticed that I spend all my time using a power and very little time as plain Kirby, suckin' things up. I had to finish the boss without a power and it was kinda nice to just be Kirby. That said, upgrading powers is pretty neat; I got volcano fire unlocked and feel even more powerful, though I'm honestly not sure what I'll be doing with that extra power since it's not like things take a lot of damage.

Oh I thought of another criticism: floating is of extremely limited use, and it also makes you reeeally slow. It doesn't feel as good as Kirby floating normally does.

The floating seems to have returned to its original purpose from Dream Land 1: a way to recover from platforming errors.

I'm nearing the end of the fourth world and the game has seen fit to throw a couple of curveballs my way, in that I'm not getting 100% on every level as a simple matter of course like in the first world. Which is good! That doesn't mean it's hard, but I did die once to the third boss too. Imagine that!

The game hasn't really grabbed me, I haven't felt compelled to keep playing at any point, but it's fun to pick up and do a level or two now and then, especially after a frustrating Splatoon 3 match, so I'm making my way through it slowly. I'm guessing there are...nine worlds? Maybe ten? based on my completion percentage so far.

Most of my hats are now upgraded to the second level, and I got the third sword level once that became available. It's interesting because power isn't something you really need (or notice a difference in) except against bosses, but I suppose doing the big chunks against health bars never goes out of style.
