It's perfectly set up for a "his first go was better than his second," so he's got a lot to live up to, for sure. I think he'll manage it, though.

I want to be excited, RTD's Doctors were my Doctors, and I vastly prefer his excesses over Moffat's (I don't know Chibnall's excesses because I stopped watching after the Amazon episode.)

But... the RTD era, and RTD's watch, were also where the Barrowman and Clarke things happened that we only learned about this year. And sexual assault is NEVER something to just push under the rug, forgive, or forget. EVER. And yes, I do hold him responsible for on-set incidents that were well-known to cast and crew.

EDIT: I linked this last time but Eccleston's quotes keep being relevant:

This is the main reason I want someone new to take over. Will round 2 of RTDs era be good television? Probably. But, to use RTDs own words ("his" in the quote below is referring to Eccleston, here):

"What has to be remembered when the show's being discussed in the present tense, now, is that I was his employer - I was his producer," Davies told SFX Magazine. I have a duty of care towards any lead actor I work with, so I have a duty of care towards Chris in that moment. He's free to say and explore whatever he wants - that's fine. This duty of care involves respecting him and listening to him at all times. That's my job and that duty of care towards him will extend for the rest of our lives. He will always be my Doctor and I always be his producer."

He utterly failed to care for whoever Barrowman and Clarke were harassing, and it shouldn't be forgotten, and you're right to call it out.

So I just saw Eccleston in person at DragonCon (he was a delight) and yeah, Nine on screen is not happening - even RTD aside, he wouldn’t do it without an official apology from the BBC for the way they handled his departure, which isn’t happening. (Probably people in here all know the story but they basically straight up lied about his reasons for leaving the show, putting words in his mouth he never said, and he’s not the type to forgive or overlook that. It was definitely shitty of them.)

Ooh, I'm jealous - you got to see his reaction to RTD coming back nearly as live as anyone. Nice!

Though... if anyone could get the BBC to apologize, it might be RTD, though it's probably not going to happen. Good for him, anyway - he was badly treated.

Sorry, I was unclear, by "just" I meant a few weeks ago, so it was before the RTD announcement. But people in the audience asked if he would ever do a multi-doctor special so he gave the story about why he's never working with the BBC again. (I think he also said he wasn't a fan of the multi-doctor stories in general, but if you held a gun to his head and the BBC stuff never happened, he wouldn't mind doing something with Jodie 'cause he likes her and her Doctor.)

I'm watching the Haunting of Bly Manor and I immediately want T'Nia Miller as the next Doctor (or bring back her minor Gallifreyan character or make her a sort of anti-Ramona-type companion.

@Johnny Unusual From Russell T Davies' novelization of Rose a couple of years back (highlights not mine, this was something I found on Google, not a picture I took of my own copy):

I think the trailer says there will be Weeping Angels, which is going to test my resolve not to watch it

Wait, already? I honestly wasn't expecting a new series soon, let alone by-month's-end soon.

If I stopped watching after the "Battle of [completely forgettable planet]" episode with the tooth hunter, do I need to catch up?

I would assume more is going to be following on from the series 12 finale, so you may want to look into watching at least that and the most recent New Years special... which, thankfully, is only two episodes total, as the series 12 finale wasn't a two parter.

Who the hell knows where Chibnall is going to go with the show in series 13, though. I hope he turns it around for Whittaker's sake.

EDIT: lol the S12 finale WAS a two parter, sorry @Zef . So, the last two episodes of S12, and the following New Year's special.

Well fuck me, we'd been watching Who on Amazon but I looked it up and apparently HBO Max has the streaming rights now? Ugggggh.

It's funny because Amazon just got the right for Seasons 1-4 for streaming here in Spain. Everythign after season 10 is still in limbo, though (and Ten's specials are still missing, which means no Waters of Mars and a lot of context missing for The End of Time, which is tied to S4(!))

They had the last photo from Jodie's filming and it was a real mix of emotions. Joy that Chibnall is moving on, and genuine sadness that she never really got to be good. I wish Russell could write for her, I imagine he'd fix it pretty quickly.

Jfc. I wasn't even all that convinced by Maxine Alderton's series 12 episode, either. Gonna be a long wait until 2023...

I remember liking the Villa Diodati episode, but.... yeah, oof. Hard to get excited about a 6-ep single arc that's nearly all Chibnall. Maybe if we're lucky we'll get some good directing and great performances that rise above the scripts. :p

I don't know what anyone is supposed to take away from that trailer. I guess confirmation of cast and a few monsters? Not a *hint* of what the plot of this season long story is going to be.

Also, yes, the "text" is weird.
