Information wants to be Free, just like these games

While True: Learn() is free on Epic. Haven't played it yet (I think it just was set to free), but it's supposed to be about Machine Learning, including real problems that are solved with it. And also about how your cat is a better programmer than you, and you have to invent an algorithm to talk to her.

Dunno, it sounds interesting, at least.

Shenmue III's free on Epic today only. Looks like they're doing one free mystery game a day, probably leading up to Christmas.

Loop Hero is today's free game on the Epic Store. I was curious about this, and I'm very pleased to get it for free! Figured other folks might be too.

The whole Tomb Raider reboot trilogy (with all DLC, as far as I can tell) is free right now and until Jan 6th in the Epic Store.

Dunno if games locked behind subscription services count here, but the 360 port of Radiant Silvergun is currently free on 'Games with Gold'. Get on that if you can! (It's basically a perfect port and, Saturn-worshipping aside, probably the best way to play the game. Nice 'Ikaruga' mode with a different approach to scoring, too.)

It's a 360 game, so it should be "free to subscribers" rather than "free to active subscribers" at least.

I usually only include actual free items here, ones that the only thing necessary to claim them is to create an account.

Not a free game, but GOG has a whole bunch of bonus content for the Witcher games available for free for a few days. Soundtracks, artbooks, lore, interviews, etc. Don't know if you need the games to see the bonus content, but it wouldn't be interesting if you didn't have them.

Epic's free game this week is Relicta, which looks to be a first person puzzle game ala Portal/Superliminal. This one has you controlling magnetism and gravity, and the screenshots and video are pretty.

Next week is Daemon X Machina, which I remember from a demo on Switch that I never played. I remember seeing comparisons to Armored Core, since they had the same producer. If you liked those, or if you're like me, wanted to like them but the controls didn't let you get there, maybe this one's for you? Either way, free.

Epic has Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, the 2D sequel to the first game. Looks like it has levels in the style of the Donkey King Country games, and a 2D-Zelda style overworld. That's just from the trailer, haven't played it, but I remember a few people here talking positively about it.

Epic has Windbound for free, which was a very odd and frustrating to control game on the Switch but I kept coming back to it until I beat it. Absolutely recommended for free, and the free DLC included a magic staff (at least on Switch) that I cannot recommend enough for improving the combat.

Cris Tales is the EGS freebie this week. I know that game got a decent amount of buzz when it first hit.

XCOM 2's one of the free Epics this week. I only played the DOS original for a bit, but people do like the remakes.

The modern takes are good. And their mod scenes are fantastic. The Long War awaits you.

XCOM 2 is phenomenal, but the War of the Chosen DLC is a big part of that. The base game is still a steal at the low price of free, though! And the upgrade to WotC is like $10 right now.

Apparently the Bioshock games are free on Epic right now. While I think they have their good points, there's a lot I find frustrating, especially from a narrative/worldbuilding perspective. For example, expecting me to believe that a bunch of separatist libertarians could produce a society with an appealing, coherent aesthetic style? Oh yeah, and plenty of weird both-sidesing racism.

Bioshock Infinite is problematic - I know what they were aiming for but they overcalibrated and ended up both-siding indented slavery and racism, yes - but I enjoyed the game, and I do thnk the story pays off, so for the price of Free I think it's solid.

The second game is the overall best, IMO, and yeah, for the price of free it's certainly worth getting (doesn't everyone have this already?).

I only have the first, and while curious about the second, the first annoyed me too much with the way too many enemiey to kill, plus the annoying escort mission, that I didn't want to buy the others. For free, I'll try the second one, though. Not Infinite, though - I vaguely remember a gross way of killing enemys with a hook? Dunno, watched a friend play it a bit, and it seemed obnoxiously hard.
Im very bad with FPS battles, so might be me.

Also, is does the first have more stupid randian nonsense? I have some really weird fascination with the work of this horrible woman, so more of that would be interesting. I mean, it's not from her, of course, but you guys know what I mean, I'm sure.

The first two are the ones that are a road trip through the ongoing collapse of a Randian utopia (the second one has some murky criticisms of forced collectivism as an opposite position, but the political stuff doesn't really hold water at all; it's much more effective in the way it has you influencing an impressionable person by your actions in the game).

The action in the second one is better, because you can have a weapon in one hand and a plasmid in the other instead of having to switch between them. There are a lot of enemies though.
