@Violentvixen I have gotten soup ladles (w/ pot lid shields) as a random drop, but the one pictured for the digital pre-order has a different texture (metal rather than wood, and a unique tassel kind of thing)

Reviews are what you’d expect, it’s a Warriors game, lots of content, etc. No separate Adventure mode, everything is just in one place this time. It sounds like the various icons on the world map get unwieldy after a while.

Also the game leaked so there are spoilers out there. Do not click this unless you want to be massively spoiled:
As everyone guessed, it’s a split timeline. The Calamity is averted and the future Champions get timewarped back so everyone can be in the game at once.

Which is fine, but I am kind of annoyed that they marketed it the way they did. It’s not the story of what happened to the characters that we know, it’s typical Warriors spin-off goofiness.

I am glad I spoiled myself, though, so I know what to expect.

Okay, but did Lana and Cia get pulled in as well, or is that going to be DLC?

Continuing my thought from the eshop thread - now that I've played a few battles and gotten a feel for the controls, I'm really digging this. That's all.

I may not pick this up. I already spent way too much time fighting Bokoblins, Moblins and Lizalfos in BotW, so fighting a whole horde of them again does not appeal to me much. I really want dungeons and places to explore.

I have to say I am worried what this stopgap of a game means for BotW 2. We have not been shown a shred of new info since the reveal trailer and I assume if things were going well that would not be the case. I'm currently playing through Majora's Mask 3D and am at awe how Nintendo popped that fever dream masterpiece out in less than two years after Ocarina of Time. I'm getting the feeling more and more that Majora's Mask was made not simply because they had the game engine, but the team also had a really, really good idea for a direct sequel. For BotW 2, I fear it's a sequel desperately searching for a reason to exist other than getting more money from the game assets.

Or it's just Nintendo being Nintendo and not showing footage from an actively-in-development game?

Nintendo have, in the past, not shown or acknowledged games exist weeks from release. They don't need to show it at the moment, so they won't. It was different with Breath of the Wild, that was on the Wii U. The Switch is a different beast entirely.

Legitimately, wasn't this very game announced whole cloth two months ago? I know COVID has messed up the timeline of reality, but I can totally see Nintendo not mentioning BotW2 in the recent months because they didn't want to "confuse" the audience for this product that has obviously been in production for at least the last year with the other big upcoming Zelda game.

If only it could be so convenient. Save me that trip to the eShop, please.

Unlocking the champions in a random order. Gee Revali, how come your mom lets you have two movesets?

Anybody know how to interact properly with this korok balloon that just starts spinning faster when you try to attack it?

You can use Stasis on it to freeze it in place and then knock it about with basically any attack--arrows not required.

Huh. I thought I tried that. Well, next time I go to that stage I'll check it out.

No wonder the gyro aiming felt like it wasn't working - it uses the left joycon instead of the right. What the heck? That's so different from what I'm used to.

Depending on how the postgame shakes out, I easily see this trumping the other Nintendo musuo games. The flurry attacks make big enemy fights go a lot faster and put more emphasis on skill and reaction time. The dodge window seems more generous to me than BotW, as I'm pulling them off left and right. It is very satisfying.

Basing the battlefields in this game on locations from another game has resulted in a much more beautiful and immersive experience. The other Nintendo musuo games felt like big empty fields with boxes in them or empty corridors with boxes in them. This game is... still that, but they look a lot more interesting, and the outposts feel more like actual places and less like featureless squares.

Also, the music is great!

Been watching my cousin play today. It’s amazing and gives a lot of neat touches/info about Hyrule before the calamity. Great stuff.

Having unlocked the champions and done a bunch of side missions, it feels like the movesets have generally higher skill ceilings than in HW1. Or maybe I'm just not familiar with them yet. So far I like Link's spears and Urbosa best, can't quite get the hang of Zelda or Daruk, and found a way of playing Revali that's almost too cheesy to really enjoy, but probably won't hold up in the long term.

One thing I'm having difficulty adapting to is that if you attack while running, you do a dash attack; you have to be standing or walking if you want to buffer some different combo, and I'm not sure if you can slow to a walk without coming to a complete stop. I guess that's the game's way of telling me to slow down.

I like that it doesn't give you an incentive to go for higher scores, because just finishing everything will surely be enough. Doing it on multiple difficulties will be repetition enough. The way runes, elements, and environmental detritus incorporate into combat, beside evoking Breath of the Wild's core mechanics, really spices up the enemy officers. The bosses in particular (so far) are not only an enormous improvement, but also offer a kind of combat I didn't expect to encounter in a Musou.

The converted Breath of the Wild environments add a lot of interest, but some of them really show why Musou doesn't usually send you into close quarters. The camera doesn't like being squeezed between your warrior and a wall.

I hope this thing has some way of indicating the locations of korok seeds you've already found, though. I feel like I'm going to want that eventually.

I haven't quite finished Chapter 2 yet but I've done everything I possibly can after getting all Champions except the next story chapter. I'm gonna try feeling out a team of Urbosa + Mipha and determine if there's any neat elemental synergy to be had there or if it's merely a nice team aesthetic.

I think my favorite Link weapon is two-handed.

From what I’ve read, you do unlock a way to see how many korok seeds are in each location.

my only real complaint so far is seeing a Lizalfos use a boomerang, then getting that boomerang, but then Link uses it as a sword 😭 Here’s hoping there’s a boomerang character.

The two-handed Link weapon is definitely aces. I get the feeling its risk/reward mechanics will be key to speedrunning.

Zelda is still my favorite to play, but she seems to lag behind the other characters in terms of viability. She’s amazing with groups, but anything with a life bar gives her trouble. The main culprit for me is the third weak attack, which puts grunts into stasis but seems to do nothing to strong enemies. Here’s hoping her later combos flesh her out.

Is it weird that I just murdered like 800,000 Rito due to an apparent misunderstanding?

ZELDA: We can't let these Rito stop us from asking a favor from the Rito! KILL THEM ALL

Revali seemed remarkably chill about the wholesale laughter of his countrymen, too. Lucky for us I guess.

REVALI: Well it looks like I'm the last survivor of my people, so I guess I'll join you!

I guess, you know, maybe Link just bonked them all with the flat of his sword and knocked them out? ...And blew them up with the non-lethal kind of remote bombs? They're probably fine.
