Oh for the days when this would be an easily searchable text FAQ. But thanks, I’ll take a look at some point.

Also I didn’t realize there were Gravity spells that would go off several battles in (I thought most were “when battle starts” and only had one or two charges) but it’s likely I’ve overlooked something.

Kazin

Yeah, I know, sorry, I feel the same way, I just ran across that video while bored at work haha

I used the Gravity exploit to beat Yiazmat tbh. I had tried like 20 times to beat it and never put it together. The exploit is bring someone who only activates Graviga, then everyone else has Mimic and no other activated abilities. Every time Mimic activates you get Graviga.[/spoiler]

I think that’s what I saw, yeah. I love it.

Regarding a reliable list of which character learns what, I actually found one here but there's one drawback, the tables are all images instead of text for some inexplicable reason so you can't just CTRL-F to find anything.

Thanks for that - I was about to say, that sounds like a cool strat but while I have at least a few Mimic users I'm not sure I've even seen Graviga. And sure enough according to the spreadsheet I've barely touched anyone who actually learns it. Welp. Guess I better pick one.

Good news, someone is making a database for this game. It's pretty easy to navigate and has both an Abilities section that shows who learns what and a fairly robust party builder with damage calculations. Though it doesn't look like the party builder can account for stat-up items just yet. Apparently the next update will let you edit stats at will.

And I feel like it's essential! My current "most played song" is Dancing Mad, because I played it 10,000 times tweaking my party over and over again because that challenge has a boss with 2x HP, three big opponents during the leadup, a bevy of status effects, and, somehow, is a song with, like, three notes in it. Pretty much every time, I came damn close to winning, but I needed to juggle this summon for that summon, or swap in a spell that hit at just the right a moment. And I had to play the song every time to find out how it all worked! A calculator... could have saved some time.

It's a damn good thing I enjoy all Final Fantasy music!

My biggest issue with that quest is that every time I had to replay it it just reminded me the song doesn't even fully loop through once, haha.

Sure give us all six minutes of Advent One Winged Angel but you can't even finish the full loop of Dancing Mad? Rassin frassin...

Man, so I'm cleaning up most of the series quests going backwards since I of course left them all at the end stages in my initial clear, and I'm in FFVIII feeling pretty good about myself after nailing both Ultimecia and Edea with my current teams... but then I get back to Adel, and dang, *that's* the hard one. Like five or six waves of chunky opponents to even get to the boss, oof. Gonna take some serious tweaking or a lot of power-boosting.

I also keep falling just short of 30 enemies in the Zack setpiece, but for that one just a little more oomf should get me there.

Kazin

did i do all of that?
(he/him)
That Zack quest was one of the last ones I beat. Even with a powerful physical party, 30 enemies is a lot.

Sprite

(He/Him/His)
I did the Zack one pretty early on with a party of First Strike characters. Add some Materia and/or Mystic Aura boosts and you’ll start one-shotting most of them.

Kazin

(he/him)
Ah, okay, that'll do it. Yeah, I just eventually beat it with my overleveled physical party haha

Yaaay! Anyone else max out their fav? Red XIII's also learned every scroll so he's got a build for pretty much any kind of party.

I'm sad at how overwhelmingly stingy this game is with scrolls. They can make any character useful so you're not stuck just going with the optimal build every single time. Slap Ruin and Mystic Aura on anyone and they'll contribute. Once I'm out of Series Quests I'm probably going to be too scared to use them on anyone else.

@Sprite Just my treasure hunting party, Locke/Rikku/Zidane/Fran, just because I've been slowly trying to accrue CollectaCards (still don't have them all yet). Congrats!

Speaking of scrolls - four people with Rhythmia Boost really does boost your rhythmia quite a bit. On daily songs, it usually doubles my rhythmia on expert - I haven't gotten 1,000 rhythmia in one song yet, but if I did well on a daily Ultimate I'm pretty sure I'd get well over 1,000.

Five new tracks today from NieR Automata, I guess we're getting tracks from the original at a later date?

Man, giving us THAT version Emil's theme feels like such a troll...

I've never played a Nier game, but that song sounds like someone high up on the dev team told their kid they'd put her singing in a game and now we're all stuck with it.

My main disappointment regarding the DLC is the lack of any new characters to go along with it. I would love to have characters from TWEWY, Nier, and Octopath Traveler.

I'd kill a man with my bare hands to get little dog-faced gremlin versions of the Chrono Trigger team.

NieR pack vol. 2 is coming April 26.

It’s intentionally bad. The song is diegetic in the game and Emil isn’t really a singer, so it wouldn’t fit for the vocals to sound as good as the vocals in the non-diegetic music.

Truth. All my complaints about this game have been very silly and superfluous but the DLC doubling the total price makes me feel justified in feeling grumpy that we don’t get ANY DLC characters or quests. Also limiting the daily hits to the base game.

At least they add the DLC songs to the Endless pool.

To elaborate on this- the song is supposed to be cute and endearing in its low quality of singing. It's supposed to have the same energy as a kid selling lemonade in their neighborhood with a worn-out sign written with poor spelling and bad grammar.

Yeah, I'm glad I didn't spring for the deluxe version with all the DLC. At most, I might grab some new FFXIV songs if there are any Endwalker songs down the line, but the DLC isn't a good deal. At least the base game is fantastic in its own right.

Kazin

I'm not too upset about the DLC being implemented the way it is, but I do kinda wish we'd have more Final Fantasy music, like the option to buy a longer cut of Dancing Mad or something.

I'm mostly fine with the DLC, it's just that most of the stuff I'm not jazzed about is front-loaded and all the good shit is coming later (Sacrifice Pt.3 from Trials of Mana is so fucking fun you guys). Extended cuts of FF songs is a great idea too!

Man, what is up with every non-trivial boss in the FFXI quests casting Stone on you, lol.

Relatedly, one resource that would sure be nice but I haven't seen (mainly using the otherwise very comprehensive google sheet Yangus linked) is a reference for which boss abilities can be prevented by Silence Buster or Dark Buster or what have you, as it's not always obvious unless it's a straightforward spell name.

I'd totally be down for a 'More FF music' DLC pack, pretty much every game has some notable absences. (OG Gulg, Pandaemonium, Tower of Bab-il, Exdeath's Castle, Magitek Factory, Floating Continent, Weapon Raid)

Not to get greedy with FFXIV music, since it already has far and away more than any other title, but the NieR pack this week just made me wish we had the three remixes from the NieR raid series, the first one in particular is a real banger.

I feel like I’m so close on the angel Kefka quest. I need to check in the spreadsheet whether anyone knows both Stona and Silena... or maybe there’s a better way.
