DK '94 is so, so good. Was my first Game Boy game, actually. (I was already a teenager when I finally got one.)

I still say it's a crime that they're withholding the Super Game Boy version, the true version, from us on NSO.

Finished up the post-game today, which brings my playthrough to a close. I thought this was a great game -- it has some flaws, but it also has more than enough charm to paper over the cracks. I'll probably replay this at some point in the future, though maybe not soon.

I started doing some post-game stuff, realized I wasn't having fun, and looked up what the ending was. It... doesn't seem worth the effort.

I feel the Bananza post-game content is basically on the same level as the "extra challenge stages" in any recent Mario game. Even the final-final stage is similar by having the "run through 'coins' that spell out congratulations" cliche that has been happening since Super Mario Bros. 2 (J). In Mario's case, the reward is generally just bragging rights, or some unlocked easter egg on a map or something. In this case, they decided to give it all actual plot, and I feel like that vaguely obfuscates the point of the challenge stages that are just there for the super players.

That said, ignoring the post-game content means you are disappointing a moppet that is a perfect little angel that never did anything to hurt anybody, so if you skip it, you are probably a sociopath. I mean, I'm not a doctor, but I'm willing to bet that's true. Monsters.

I get that the point of having a post-game is to provide a challenge for players, but when the premise is "Help Pauline write a song!" it's crazy that you... don't get to hear the song.

You don't get to see the performance, but it is clear the song she comes up with is the Donkey Kong theme. This entire game is a prequel to the Donkey Kong title screen.

Yeah, that's how I felt. I always like when a game tells me I'm a super player, but also, if you're going to give me an entire series of objectives, with the final one being go to the surface, and then make me sit through the credits again, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect to hear the song you've been helping Pauline with for the past several hours. Just getting a static image was a bit of a letdown. I thought there was going to be at least a cutscene or something.

Y'all are worrying me with this talk of extremely difficult post-game content. Sure, I got through it in 3D World and Wonder, but man were those stressful.

Anyway, this game fully has its hooks in me now. Enjoying it very much.

Your mileage may vary, as I really do not know what percentage of people ever finish any game's "post game content", but I did not think it was too bad. It is mostly based on the transformations and seeing what neat stuff you can do with these abilities beyond "I use this power to jump a little further". Not so much "difficult" as knowing how to use all the tools you have for specific situations. Also: a great reason to find bananas and power up your skills.

Also, for anyone having trouble with the post-game content (or some of the regular game content): Don't be afraid to accessorize! Pauline's outfit that restores health while transformed 100% works during the permanent transformation of the challenge courses, and DK's tie that neutralizes lava can be abused in a few areas to absolutely neuter some damage tiles. Come to think of it, that anti-lava tie seems like the most powerful thing in the game, particularly when cleaning up Zebra Land..

Overall I wouldn't call it extremely difficult, but it's definitely a step up from the rest of the game. There were two parts of it that I didn't find particularly enjoyable, which is more about my own gameplay preferences than anything else.

So far it's been quite easy overall, so I figure I'll be fine then. Good deal, appreciate all the feedback.

Got this for Christmas and this game is a real treat. I keep asking "WHEN I GOING TO TIRE OF GOING BERSERK AND RIPPING APART THE EARTH LIKE SOME INCREDIBLE HULK DIG DUG" and so far the answer is never. There are a lot of songs on the soundtrack but it feels like I'm just listening to the one (not complaining because it fucking slaps).

It took nearly two months but I'm done. Wow, I really wasn't expecting what a wild ride the climax was.

So... K. Rool killed a lot of people in New Donk City by flooding the city with rotten bananas, right? Like, that stuff hurt to touch and goes very high up. A lot of people died. That's dark, man.

I...huh, he really did, didn't he.

Metro Kingdom's military response against Crocodile Isle was swift, but the post war nation building dragged on for decades...

For some reason it makes me kind of sad that the statue we're getting of Wrinkly Kong is her as a ghost. But I suppose it's canon that she has passed on and it's supposed to represent the game she came from.

Emerald Rush continues to be a very cool DLC, I think Nintendo really didn't do it justice by just shadow dropping it and not fully explaining how it works and all the shit you can unlock, including extra perks and layers. I already loved DKB, but Emerald Rush really made me appreciate and learn a lot of the layers inside and out and I love the game even more now.
