[Johnny Unusual]

Dall-e is an AI model that generates images from prompts. And Dall-E mini is the fun free version. Let's play.

Personally, I'm going to us former winners of Popularity Contests and see if good ones come out.

I started with Gandalf and Samus Aran. Most of them didn't work... Except this!

I tried "DJ Lance Rock vs. Pee Wee Herman Stand Battle" and it gave me a DBZ fusion of the two of them, which is closer than I was expecting to be honest.

Hmmmm, I popped this up on my iPad and it runs for a couple minutes in the background and then produces no visible results. Not sure if it’s temporarily busted or just doesn’t like this browser for some reason.

This AI seems really good at creating those. Especially when a real person is involved.

It's actually a very skilled AI, it just finds human faces and anatomy to be revolting. Luckily, for now, all it has in its arsenal are images.

Heh. More seriously Im sure this “mini” version is just running a seriously truncated number of cycles compared to what you’d run on the full package, and it just ain’t enough to generate good faces, which are both complicated and something we humans are really really picky about.

I like seeing what these things do with abstract requests. For instance, here's what I got from the prompt "thinking things through." Some of them are basically just stock images, but some are kind of interesting. I especially like the one on the lower left.

I tried to do a Frozen/Calvin and Hobbes mash-up but it ended in Calvin and Horrors.

The best is the left in the middle row where Hobbes takes off his face revealing a laughing Calvin and that will be Twin Peaks season four.

That worked out well but not enough Psyduck. Meanwhile, this one looks good visually but not as interesting as I hoped.

This tech is mind-blowing. It's going to render a lot of commission artists obsolete, but then it also has amazing potential with how it could supplement a human artist's process. I'm trying to think of how I can make comics with it.

I like the middle one where not-Chrono and Luigi re-enact the two Ron Silvers from the end of Time Cop. Also the last one where Luigi is firing a nail gun.

You inspired me to try the other Chrono, with different characters. But it pretty much comes up with Kidd, if anyone at all.

I've tried different styles, but I haven't found anything as satisfying as woodblock. This is not as engaging to me:
