It's a nice problem to have! It's in the Ukraine in a depot somewhere at the moment, I'm excited to get it

That's something I'd very much like, once I've fixed the vertical lines on my display.

I ordered a GBA Everdrive last week in the Good Friday sale. Having not heard anything for a week I e-mailed them and immediately my Everdrive has been shipped. Not hugely impressed so far (I appreciate there is a pandemic on)

Krikzz does say that it can take upwards of a month to receive stuff from the Black Friday sale, so I'm not stressing about anything yet (I am very excited to have an N64 ED finally, though.)

Yeah, that's pretty normal. He definitely gets swamped, especially around this time of year.

SATIATOR INBOUND.

If I told 15 year-old me that someday, I'd have access to essentially the full libraries of the N64, Saturn and PS1 all on just one device for each of them, real hardware, I'd be floored.

Oh, wow. Let us know how it all turns out! At this point, I may be holding out for the Fenrir, but the Satiator is awesome since you don't have to do anything with your hardware.

Thinking of N64, though... is it worth getting the X7, or just roll with the 2.5? I'm not seeing a major justification for the X7, to be honest. (I've also not gotten one yet because it's probably my least favorite Nintendo system outside of the Virtual Boy.)

The X7 is literally only worth it for one of two reasons: you're making homebrew games for the N64 (it has a USB port) or you're going to play Animal Crossing (it has a real-time clock). If you're not doing one of those things (I'm not), it's spending a lot more money for no reason. Unless you really, really hate resetting the system instead of just turning it off after you save your progress in something, I guess?

Could you use the USB port to play multiworld OoT randomizers online? I actually don't know if that works on original hardware, but people use the USB port on the SD2SNES to play LttP multiworlds on actual dang Super Nintendos.

No idea, honestly. All the literature just talks about it for dev purposes. I haven't dug any deeper. Are there multiplayer OoT randomizers?

Yeah, same concept as the LttP ones. Everyone's items are distributed throughout ALL the different games, so anything you find has a good chance of being for another player, and you're at the mercy of others to send you most of your stuff. Last I heard, it was emulator-only, so maybe don't feel the need to splash out on the expensive flash cart just for that.

Okay, cool. Yeah, I have no problems resetting the system - I already do that with my GB X3. Might have my brother order that for me, and I still need for him to help me out on something in the equivalent price range for him.

My GBA Everdrive is here! It's a lovely thing (I got the Christmas edition). Can't wait to really play with it. I need to get the emulators on, because I can.

My Satiator and N64 ED are both en route! It would be aces if they both got here before I have a bunch of days off around Xmas.

What’s a good way to play DS fan translations on a New 2DS XL? My DS Lite doesn’t work very well anymore and my R4 doesn’t work on a 3DS. Is there a good alternative R4-like card for playing on 3DS and/or is there a simple homebrew solution to just do it on the system itself?

Side note:

Fyonn

did their best!
The R4i+ works on hacked 3DS systems. Hacking a 3DS is an extremely solved problem at this point. It's to the point that the most recent version can be hacked, and updating the hacked 3DS has no negative effects, and the 3DS remains hacked. (note: future updates may change this, always check before letting a hacked device update)

Sadly, a hacked 3DS cannot just run a patched DS game off of its SD card, you do still need a R4i+ or equivalent to do it. Something about the DS mode being a hardware mode that can't be activated via software or something.

Good to know! I bought a New 2DS XL specifically to hack and to have a DS-family system to replace my poor aging pinkies. It’s pretty much never going to connect to the Internet so no worries about a surprise update.

This isn't quite true. However the means to do so may not work well for later games with more elaborate antipiracy checks, and it is also much slower than loading from a cartridge

Kazin

did i do all of that?
(he/him)
Not sure where to ask this, so I figured I'd try here - I would like to emulate Wonderswan Color on some sort of handheld so I can try the fantranslation of SaGa 1. I have never downloaded a Wonderswan emulator before! I own a GBA, DS, PSP, 3DS, and Vita, and would be fine with any of those platforms, as I have either flashcarts or hacked systems for all of those. I downloaded eSwan (I think it's called) for PSP and in addition to not saving my game, the window is very small and not adjustable, plus there's weird code flashing in the upper left corner. I'm hoping for something better. Again, I don't want to play on my TV, any portable will do.

Does the Vita version of RetroArch have a Wonderswan core? That seems like a decent solution if so.

Kazin

PSP or Vita will do it no problem, use e[mulator]. I'm sure it can be configured to run perfect.
No wonder I couldn't find a good emulator, what the hell kind of name is e[mulator]

In any case, it works perfectly. Thank you madhair!

Sarge

Oh, right, I forgot about e[mulator]. Yeah, that's another good option if you stick to PSP. I don't know which one is more accurate, but I suspect both it and RA would work fine.

The only reason why I gave it a shot and not Retroarch on Vita is it's easier to put stuff on my hacked PSP than my hacked Vita lol

I absolutely agree with that sentiment. The PSP was so much easier to work with in that regard.

So, I was able to pull a trimmed Redump set of Saturn images that eliminates duplicates and games that are unplayable without being fluent in Japanese. If fits neatly onto a 256GB card with the Redump supplement on Archive (fan translations, etc, applied to Redump rips). I've got the latest firmware and menu files on there and I'm just WAITING for that Satiator to show up now so I can finally be satiated.

Congrats, man. Been a long journey getting there, I know, so I hope you have a blast with it. :)
