Hades is out now, holy heck

Skimbleshanks, you should already have access to the list of boons and prereqs. It's available for purchase from the Contractor.

In terms of Heat, I always go for Extreme Measures and Middle Management. I just find them more interesting. Benefits Package is fun too.

Ah, yeah, seconded on all of those. It really depends on what part of the game you'd like to have a little more bite.

I will say that the giant Gorgon head is murder on Middle Management until you get the hang of it. I think I lost several runs to that fight.

Ah, I see. I stopped looking at the codex long ago bc a) it’s a codex and b) it’s so good at highlighting the most relevant thing most of the time (maybe just with the gods?) that when it can’t for some reason (multiple pages? enemies? I forget) I was put off. I’ve just been looking at the book in Zagreus’s room. Well, now I know.

Haha it looks like the one Aphrodite boon I don’t have requires a boon I specifically got rid of recently because I didn’t like it. (short range burst cast one)

Aphrodite might have my least favorite cast in the game, yeah.

Do I need keys outside of respecs once I have all the weapons and mirror upgrades?

Not much, no. I still wouldn't trade them all away, though. The exchange rates are terrible.

I'm loving this game so much despite how difficult it can be at times. Finally where I have gotten through Elysium 3-4 times but I keep getting demolished both within it and afterward, to the point I'm usually carrying the lucky tooth after Asphodel. Made it to the last fight once but had my ass handed to me.

My twitch skills are definitely improving, but I'm still playing around with builds a lot. I try for the best synergies between weapon/mirror/boons/hammer upgrades, but unfortunately I can't say I feel that skill has really clicked for me yet. I don't want to look at any build guides just yet but ugh, the feeling of progressing while realizing your build is turning to shit - and will take you down with it - is not a fun one. It's getting less frequent for me though at least.

Starting to wonder a little if this is like Hyrule Warriors in that 100% will forever be out of reach - but like that game, I love that I'll get to play this for a long time coming without running out of things to do.

If all of you are enjoying this game's setting, or just love Greek myth, may I recommend Lore Olympus to you? It is a comic about the relationship between Hades and Persephone (and is very good.)

Third escape, with 2 heat (timer and... extreme measures) once again with the shield of chaos, Zeus aspect. Didn't even need the Lucky Tooth. (but... just barely) I actually kept all my lives for a long time. I do think at one point Hades clipped into one of the pillars so I couldn't really dodge his beams. Can that happen? Am I misremembering what happened?

Anyway, love u shield. And I don't ever use its blocking capabilities so I'm sure its even better. (just not comfortable holding a button and standing there, even though I've noticed when letting enemies kill me it does take a while... it's safe...)

Next weapon is the bow and apparently I've never even beaten Theseus and... Whoever before.

Unlocked a fourth aspect - the spear's. I can afford it, but I think I would be very bad at using it bc I love health points and when they are high. Maybe its vampiric qualities are good? Oh, that's tied to the spear's charge thing. I don't have the range!

Little salty because I had a run yesterday that should have been my first escape but I anviled my spear like an idiot and lost the triple strike for something else, when having like level 3 Zeus on attack.

At this point I know I just need to save up the 1000 darkness for (what I presume to be) the last death defied, but I do so love the ones that improve boons and I haven’t tried out that last upgrade yet, either.

How exactly does boon rarity work and/or relate to level?

2 is bigger than 1...

yeah it rarely works out well.

Okay here's something: I probably knew Asterius's name, but I thought there were two minotaurs in this game and didn't want to mislabel him. Anyway, there are not.

I don't quite know how boon rarity works aside from "rarer, better; chances are increased with some mirror perks". There's apparently more to some non-Duo rarities than I would have known according to this.

Levels I think are easy enough to understand. Rare boons have better numbers, and level ups just make those numbers even better, with diminishing returns I think. (maybe there's a wave and they get much better if you invest enough, I dunno) If my boons are good, I often prefer to spread the level ups around as opposed to developing one exclusively. (sometimes I do have one really good boon, though) Rarer boons have better level ups because they're improved proportionately.

As far as I know, every boon you find starts at level 1. (could be wrong; don't know this game that well)

Anyway, maybe this wasn't a very good answer, but I'm highlighting your question just so it doesn't get lost, in case I have more thoughts about minotaur face blindness.

Rarer = better, yeah. There's not much else to it.

Boons always start at level 1 unless it's a trade boon: trades retain the boon's level and increase its rarity.

Certain boons also can't be leveled through Poms and can only be improved by Rarity - Hermes boons, for instance.

To go a bit deeper, rarity increases the scaling per level of a given boon. If normal is 50% then rare will be 65%, epic 80%, using arbitrary numbers for simplicity.

And I was baffled about what the last undiscovered thing in my items codex section was for quite some time until I randomly decided to buy an Anvil on a whim because it was a guaranteed low heat win for me and literally nothing could ruin it. And I've put over 200 hours into the game. So despite Anvils being a relatively new addition, they've never seemed like a good idea. Just throwing that out there. Hell, if it just let you remove one hammer and pick another it would be infinitely better than lose something you picked on purpose in exchange for 2 things that might fuck your build.

Wow, 24% on Different League, plus Calculated Risk, and you were using the shield - and it looks like you had Athena's Call, if I'm not mistaken. You must have been unkillable.

There was *one* run where I got a hammer upgrade that I really loathed, so I took a chance on the anvil and got rid of it in favor of some stuff that worked really well, but it's not really worth it unless you screwed up earlier in the run.

karzac

(he/him)
I've had decent results with the Anvil when I had an early Hammer that didn't end up fitting with a build that went a different direction, or a late hammer that gave me no useful options. It's definitely a risk though. Although I can imagine it being pretty useful if you had a Cast-focused build, since a weird Hammer is unlikely to fuck with that.

For me, it's really just a question of whether I think it is a serious risk to the run if I lost either of my current hammers. When the answer is no, I take the anvil, which works out to maybe one in three times? I'm sure at some point that'll cost me, but I find it's a fun way to spice up the end of a run that's feeling like a sure thing either way.

I actually just had it work out really well for me. Was using the Chiron Bow and traded Piercing Volley (which was doing fine, but not great, for me) for Flurry Shot and Relentless Volley, which worked out much better.

You can only get one boon that modifies your Attack, Special, Dash, or Cast at one time,

That's... not really true? (Or, I guess, maybe not phrased well.) Last night, I played a round and got both Deadly Flourish and Dead Flight for the Shield. Both modify your special and only your special. The game will tell you if a boon will replace another boon.

Ah, that's the thing. The latter isn't a boon from the gods, it's an upgrade from the Daedalus Hammer.

When deciding whether to take the anvil, you should be aware of what upgrades are available for your weapon. Don't take the anvil with the sword, for example, unless you're okay losing half your max health.

I think remove one at random, add one at random, add one of your choice. Worst case you end up repicking your old upragde.

Well fuck I would hope that would work out well.

I've found piercing volley underwhelming aside from spreading status effects. Weak is nice, doom is great.

I've only seen the Anvil in the final Charon shop, where can they show up early?
